Beam and Play 1 (first Gen) and chromecast

Hello,

I have two Play 1's (first gen) and I am looking into buying the Beam.

I have two questions:

  1. Will the beam connect well with first gen Play 1's?
  2. I am a cord cutter and everything is streamed using chromecast or fire stick through my tv. Is this an issue or will it work the same way?
Thanks for your help.

Not exactly sure what 'connect well' means, but you can use the play:1s as surround sound speakers for the beam if that's what you're asking. They also can remain as a separate room to play music together or separately.

The Beam will play PCM stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1. FireTV is compatible, but not sure on chromocast (I'd be surprised if it can't do DD 5.1). Your TV is also a factor. Does your TV have an HDMI-ARC port or optical output and will passthrough audio? What's the model number? If your TV is older and can't do this, then there are ways aroudnd it, though typically not as user friendly.

Thanks for your help.

Hi jshaw

Yes, the Beam will work with Play 1's. Note: You cannot mix a Play 1 with a Sonos One (Gen 1 or 2).
