I have a playbar and 2 play1s set as surround sound, the playbar is linked to my tv via optical link. While watching the tv I get the tv sound but also get ambient noises through the surround speakers that is unrelated to the tv programme

How about in music playback, are you experiencing the same issue?
What is the audio source in use, Cable box, Blu-Ray player, Apple TV, or built-in TV apps for streaming services?
Kindly submit a diagnostic report through the Sonos app when it happens, and reply with the confirmation number. I'd start by reviewing your system, it will help in identifying what's possibly causing the issue.
