Hi All,

I have some oddities with my two setups. One is NVidia Shield 2019 connected to LG OLED B8, and then to an Arc. The other is a 4K Firestick connected an old Samsung LCD, and then to a Beam.

I have a load of movies on Plex, and generally all good other then AAC 5.1 sound tracks not playing as 5.1 on the Arc; playback will only go through as 2.0 PCM. This is consitent from the Shield and also a 4k Firestick. All AC3 soundtracks are fine. DTS won’t play at all.

On the Beam the AAC 5.1 plays fine as Dolby Digital 5.1 and also plays DTS as the same (transcoding).

Other than convert the files from AAC to AC3, is there a way to sort this out for the Arc? I can play from the Plex app on the TV and all is ok, but the LG TV apps are clunky and slow and I’d rather avoid using them.

Thanks

The Arc doesn’t support AAC 5.1. I think your best option is to convert the AAC files to AC-3 or possibly E-AC-3 (Dolby Digital Plus). If you had a TV with eARC, you could possibly convert the AAC files to LPCM so you could get multichannel PCM from the Arc.

Here is the full list of home theater audio formats supported by the Beam and Arc:

Thanks, suspected a conversion might be needed. I’ve found a free application to convert 1080p movies, each takes about one minute as it is only the audio that is being converted. Haven’t found one for 4k yet, to allow conversion of both AAC and DTS.
