How to fix - Sonos Ace Microphone cutting out or going quiet on MacOS (with Slack, Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, Webex, etc)

Unfortunately I cannot respond to other posts where people were having this issue, so I am just writing this forum post here in hopes that people come across it from their search engines.

If you are experiencing your microphone on your MacOS device decreasing in volume and then coming back up again, this appears to only be impacting M3 and M4 devices as they share the same Bluetooth adapter. Don’t ask me why, I haven’t got a clue.

The fix is as below

Visit chrome://flags (or edge://flags if you’re using Edge) and do the following:

  • Locate Allow WebRTC to adjust the input volume
  • Set this to Disabled
  • Select Relaunch in the bottom right corner

Other things to note:

  • Even if your microphone is not in active use by Chrome/Edge, if you use Slack, Zoom, Teams, Webex it will still reduce the volume. Simply having Chrome/Edge open seems to trigger this behaviour
  • This doesn’t appear to be an issue with non Chromium based browsers

It would be great to understand if this does actually fix your issue, so, if you have stumbled across this and you’ve tried the above and it resolves your issue - please provide a thumbs up and a comment so it’s easier for others to find this information.

Hello @Luke_H, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I am sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing an issue where the Sonos Ace microphone is lowering its volume and going mute while using chatting platforms such as Slack, Teams, Zoom etc.

With my response your thread moved to the top of the latest activity list. It would be great if we can get confirmation that this workaround fixes it, from more Sonos Ace users who experience it.

Thank you for taking the time to share what worked for you, it is much appreciated!
