how can I improve Sonos Ace mic quality?

Hi all, I recently got a new pair of Sonos Ace. I love the listening experience, however, I have received complaints about the sound quality of the mic when in calls.

Given the feedback, I decided to test record a voice memo, (iPhone 16 pro) with both the Sonos Ace and the AirPods Pro 2.

the results are in and they are drastic. The Sonos ace produces a Tin and thin like recording (both in Aware and NC mode) while the AirPods Pro 2 come in bassy and super clear.

My question: Is there a way to improve the mic quality of the Ace or is this headset specifically designed to hear sound only and has mic call as a secondary feature?

I’m certainly not aware of one, specifically. I’d be tempted to factory reset the headphones, and finally check for updates in the Sonos controller for them, but I think your best bet is to call Sonos Support to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Although you do need to remember that the Ace and your AirPods have two different microphones…which may or may not be the issue.

Great recommendation!

I did a full factory reset and tested them out with a friend, who had the patience to give me feedback and she said it did sound closer to the AirPods Pro 2. I’ll continue doing a case study and report back to see if it resolved the issue.

Also, I wonder if adding the headset to tv swap and doing the true play had anything to do with the change in quality. Any thoughts? I think I’ll avoid using that feature for now since I don’t need it.

thanks again for the recommendation!

Update:

although 1 person said sound quality had improved, I did the voice memo recording and compared it to the pre factory reset Sonos and it sounded identical. The AirPods Pro 2 (significantly cheaper in a smaller form) still has noticeable better mic quality. : /

Interesting. Please post back if you decide to contact Sonos, I’d be interested in their response.

I wouldn’t think the TV swap would/should touch anything about the mic, but I have no real idea.
