Has Sonos Ace Ultra fixed the Sonos Ace volume issues?

The Sonos Ace has always been too loud at its lowest volume setting with no acknowledgement from Sonos despite multiple posts here. The solution for Android users was to Disable Absolute Volume in Developer Options but Google has now removed this ability. Has the Sonos Ace Ultra fixed this issue?

Hi @JasonSC

Welcome to the Sonos Community, and apologies for the delay in replying!

There is no reference to too low a volume on Ace in our internal documentation, and an engineer I asked knew nothing about it - I can only presume that too few users called in to report it (I did find the community threads relating to it, but that’s all) for anything to be done about it. I can only presume that very few people ever wear the headphones and set the volume to the lowest level.

I would therefore not expect Ace Ultra to be any different, but as I don’t have a set, I really can’t say one way or another.

My replying here will get this thread back on the list of those recently active - perhaps someone possessing both Ace and Ace Ultra will be able to give you a more definitive answer.

I hope this helps.

I really liked the idea of turning on  noise blocking, picking an instrumental selection and taking a nap. The too loud issue is frustrating for me.

I really hate calling in, for anything - not just Sonos.

Would this be a good use for the new suggestion post option?

Sure @Stanley_4 - I certainly don’t see the harm in it. It is possible that the level of volume has more to do with the host Bluetooth device than with the headphones (there are only so many steps of volume allowed with Bluetooth, I think), but maybe not entirely so. If you make the request, maybe we will find out once and for all!

Hi @Corry P

This has been a long-standing issue for me as well. The Sonos Ace do not have fine volume control at low volume settings, the way Apple or Bose headphones have. It just jumps from zero/mute to pretty loud with the first step. I have this low volume use case every day when listening to music while working, and it is terrible usability.

I would also argue there is an expectation for fine low volume control across headphones as a class of products because they sit right on the ear, so excessive loudness should not be promoted.

It’s very easy to test with any iPhone or MacBook, and others are reporting it on Android.

Somebody even mapped the loudness curve a year ago to show how aberrant it is:

I hope engineers can be made aware of this problem again. It’s hard to believe they haven’t considered this issue.

Thanks
