Sonos:  to help with the current problems with your app, please publish the prior working release version of Sonos app (iOS) IPA for download.  You can put this up on your website, as it’s digitally signed by MacOS’s development system.

This makes good business sense and will allow your customers to continue using their equipment while you fix the many problems Sonos introduced with this new version.

THANK YOU.

I totally agree. I was a Sonos distributor and had installed at least 30 Sonos systems and all of my old clients are mad at me because they can’t use past functionality.

Even if Sonos does comply and adds the ability to reload the functional Sonos app I will have to do it for most of my clients.

Not good.

Sorry, but IMO it won’t happen. Sonos management are in “fingers in ears” mode. They won’t listen to anything that we have to say here.

If they were going to do anything sensible about this ridiculous situation they would have done it weeks ago. They are going to try to tough it out, and hope that people forget just how unprofessional they have been.

I think it’s time for the Open Source community to step in.   What we need is a protocol, similar to what Matter is for IoT, that is an open standard for controlling speakers.  The API would be designed to allow for proprietary extensions.

Having an open standard would really mitigate a dumpster fire like Sonos.

There are several proprietary speaker systems on the market, that all use their own private code.  An open standard is where we need to go.

There is already open source code available. Noson is open source, stable and works - it has been available since 2015.

It’s designed to work under Linux, but there is no reason to believe that its method of operation would not work under any other OS.

As to open standards - I suspect the manufacturers fear that they have too much to lose (i.e. control over their own marketing tools) but, as I understand it, Sonos devices are heavily based upon DLNA (probably with proprietary extensions).
