So I’m wondering if it might be safe for me to update my version (the old pre disaster version)?

I only listen to internet radio stations and FLAC files from my NAS.

If you still have the good old S2 I would suggest staying on it for a few more months. Current stability is not bad but there are still queue management features to be added. My guess is, that once the final features are added, the focus will be on stability so the remaining issues will get chased out.

Like you I have a background in delivering software and I agree this has been shambolic.

Excellent, thanks for the reply :)

I will try to keep an eye on updates etc.

That is a very good question and thanks for the reply :) The only reason to upgrade is because I don’t like the feeling of running old software that hasn’t had any security updates etc for well over a year.

I wonder if the possible issues with Play1 volume responsiveness will be something they can sort out or if it’s something that is permanent?

There have been updates to address the issues with older devices, with work ongoing. I’ll refer you to the Sonos reply and links on the following Reddit thread for further reading.

I wouldn’t update yet, not worth the risk. I’ve been without most local library use, pre app update. They haven’t fixed everything yet. These people who say all is good, cannot be using a local library .

kind regards, I hate sonos

Interesting. I’ve not yet lost access to my local library, which is 97% of my normal listening. And I’ve been up to date with S2 since about a week after it was originally released. Before the change to version 80.x.

If you have lost access to your local library, there is likely something else wrong, it isn’t necessarily the update, but some other issue that needs addressing in your system.

I haven’t lost access to my local library use now, however a number of the ifeatures still haven’t been resolved. That were there last year before app update.

I must have misinterpreted “without most local library use”, apologies.

The app has definitely improved since the whole update debacle.  I never had a problem updating from S1 to S2.  I have a combination of Play 1 and newer speakers.  I have one of the version 80 app and it does allow me to scroll.  The scroll bar is barely visible.  One problem that I am still having is that when attempting to play a large playlist using voice they will not play (though the size of an acceptable playlist has increased since the introduction of S2).

Because of the severe restrictions in library size, I had to switch to using Plex to access my large local library. Alas, the AZ scrolling went away for that as well and this update did not restore it. Why on earth did they take it away in the first place? I remain furious over a year after the update disaster.

@bintryin2

Did you update the app and also then run the latest system update?

To get the A-Z option on a music service, you need:

  1. The music service needs to support it. Few do, Apple Music is one, no idea about Plex.
  2. The app needs to support it, only the Desktop app does for music services.

It was working in Plex until the disaster update last year.

I have automatic system updates enabled, but just for the heck of it I manually had it check for updates and it came back saying I’m up to date. And there is no pending app updates for Sonos or Plex. Whatever they did to restore it for Sonos libraries didn’t extend to Plex, like it used to for years.

Have things improved with the app significantly over the last couple of months? The general consensus when I last asked was that I’d be best sticking with S2 for a while yet.
