Sonos is the antithesis to what it originally was

I was an early adopter of Sonos. I’ve been a product tester, have several thousands of dollars in Sonos products and have been on a Sonos system for nearly 20 years. In the first decade of using Sonos it felt like a world change to my prior music system -- not in audio quality, but in the useability, connectivity, and experience. It’s now totally the opposite. Cumbersome, constant wifi/network/password issues, updates, system settings, serial numbers, endless grind to keep it online.

In addition, the actual speakers do not sound as good as they once did to my ear. Not only did they retire some of the best speakers they’ve ever made, the replacements do not have the same quality. I often just go to my garage to listen to my gen 1 Sonos system. My nearly $1k Sub died just after “warranty” after only a few years. I’m told there’s no fixing it and it’s barely been used. It always created more connectivity problems than it was worth and now it is literally a 30 pound piece of garbage.

I’m done with Sonos. Sadly.

Back to Hi-Fi for me.

I’m happy again since they got on top of the app. Still running some Play:1s happily with a sub-mini. Upgraded the Playbase to an Arc Ultra. Pretty happy with that.

All in all they are back on track.

I’ve been running a system since the PLAY:3 came out, so both S1 originally, and S2 eventually. I’ve kept my network pretty clean, and assigned IP addresses while I had a router that seemed to need them, I’ve never had the ongoing troubles you seem to have experienced.

I’m sorry you’ve had such trouble. Perhaps I’m lucky these issues have never hit me, currently with more than 20 Sonos devices. The biggest ‘issues’ I’ve needed to deal with weren’t Sonos issues, but external to my network. There is no doubt that a good network is needed, though, since the Sonos devices use networking in ways that most other things don’t.

Had no problems at all in the last year or so. If you are having wifi problems then that's what it is your wifi network etc not SONOS!!!!!
