I’ve had it. Too many times I’ve had people over and Sonos new app doesn’t work. Even though I have tens of thousands worth their gear, I’m ripping it out. Any suggestions on a replacement?
Wiim Amp....Bluesound
The Sonos App is working okay here (see attached), but there’s always AirPlay, direct control, Bluetooth or line-in audio and even voice service playback & control (SVC, Alexa etc.)
However if you’re having trouble with the new Sonos App, if not tried already, then you could maybe reproduce the issue(s) you are seeing and then go onto submit a Sonos system diagnostic report from within the Sonos App, note it’s reference and then contact/chat with Sonos Support Staff via this LINK and see what the Staff can perhaps suggest to help you to resolve the matter.
Having recently been through it my main advice would be take your time. It’s not going to be good rushing in to some random brand and finding it doesn’t do what you want.
My thought process and the way I reduced choices was
- What music sources do I actually use?
- What features do I want?
- How many boxes do I want per listening location?
- Who can offer the above and what known or recurring issues do they have?
- Can I diy anything must have if it is missing?
- Do I like their app or compatible alternatives?
While it is easy for people to throw brands they prefer at you, they rarely know or ask what it is your need or want first.
Of the two Palco mentions for example:
I had been keeping an eye on WiiM, but a WiiM Amp and the WiiM range is no real use where I want a single speaker or the ability to have multi-room integration with my Home Theatre. The amp is the only single box option with a subwoofer out which I want in two rooms and the new WiiM Ultra is the only player option with a subwoofer out and needs either powered/active speakers or an amp + passive speakers.
As for Bluesound, they have various speaker options like Sonos, but well… blueos and lenbrook is enough for me to avoid them.
The brands I considered and one I finally chose, were the ones I considered the best for my needs. They don’t have the breadth of services integrated that Sonos does, or as many different speakers. They do have far better room correction or their avrs, amps and network receivers, suitable smart speakers and the music services I want.
If I’d just jumped to the usual WiiM, Bluesound, Denon suggestions people make I wouldn’t have been happy with my choice. My ideal choice from a music perspective would be openhome based, but I’m not paying Linn prices
So more than anything work out what you want from your replacement, then go looking at brands for the best system to match.

I love HEOS on on my new Denon set up. Home sub pairs with 2, 350 for surround and their 550 Atmos sound bar, which has a far more compact size than my old Sonos Playbar.
HEOS app is used by several other manufacturers, including Marantz & Denon
Good luck on your decisions.
The WiiM Amp's setup options are on a completely different level than Sonos...programmers from Sonos should go to the competition for training....
