I am a 70yr old guy with a severe physical disability living i a nursing home with WiFi 4 internet 2.4 GHz, password secured. About 3yrs ago I parted with my Sonos Play 5 Gen 1 and tried various more expensive more modern WiFi and Bluetooth Speakers. What a mistake! Some would not connect to the home Wi-Fi, others (voice controlled), could not understand my disability affected voice.
Recently I Found a black mint play 5 Gen 1 on Fl'bay with original documents and leads for under Β£90. It connected to the home' cranky WI-FI first time and has never missed a beat. Because of being largely bed bound and in a lot of pain, I tend to listen to music upwards of 6hrs a day. The sound is smooth and clear and never gives me a headache even with extended listening. It makes BBC Sounds sound good and the S1 Controller finds and plays my vast Apple playlists without fail
. The separation of instruments is particularly good. I would classify the music as cd quality. Of course the build quality is excellent.
If you are in a tricky WI-FI situation and need a speaker for extended listening, without hi-res or voice control, on a limited budget; older Sonos speakers are remarkable. My S1 Controller currently works flawlessly .
Thanks for listening, JW.
