I have what seems to be good news.  I'm running version 16.1 of the Sonos app and have had "App Updates" turned off on several Ipads since May 1st. I also have  "Update Automatically" in the "System Update" tab of the app turned off.  Today, I checked the App Store for updates and found a few apps to update, but the Sonos app wasn't one of them. If this continues, I can "update all" instead of selecting each app update separately.  Of course, I would spot check for Sonos first.

Has anyone else experienced this, or was I just lucky today?

I’m still seeing it:  80.00.05-release+20240510.78d060b

Thank you for pointing that out.  I just checked and do see it shown as available in the Goole Play Store  in Manage Apps->Updates Available.  However, when I go to My Account->Available Updates in the Apple App store, the update is not shown as available.  Of course in either store if I go directly to the app, the new app would be what I would download.

As an aside,  I had turned off auto-update on my IOS devices but forgot to so on my Android device.  The Android device auto-updated.  After playing with the app for a few minutes I rolled it back, and turned off auto update.

Gee, I wish Apple and Google would allow you to selectively turn off auto-update by app!

I think for Google it depends on your phone - I can selectively turn off auto-update by app (OnePlus) but I believe that Xiaomi might not.

I did

Thank you.  I didn’t know this wasn’t a ”universal feature” on Android. Unfortunately  I can’t find how to that on my S23.  Perhaps I’ll dig deeper.

I do believe this is a "universal” issue on IOS.
