Garbage Update Process, Garbage Product

Old Sonos user, been through multiple generations of product.

I thought Sonos went to hell when they rolled out their new app (and, they did...), but thankfully there are some third party apps out there that actually work, even if it’s a bit rude to have to pay a monthly subscription just to have a decent app for the speakers I already paid for.

But today I needed to update the wifi settings on my system - new router, new SSID. I have updated about 40 IoT devices in about 2 hours. Why the hell did Sonos take an hour to update a small handful of speakers, and even then, I have to factory reset half my system.

Absolute trash. Will never buy another Sonos product or recommend to anyone ever again.

It looks like even older devices do not have have to be reset anymore to change WiFi as was needed for some older device (without BLE) needed to be since the 2024 update you mention, see https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/connect-sonos-to-a-new-router-or-wi-fi-network

Why did you feel the need to reset them?

A bit late now, but best practice, use same SSID and password on your new router, zero configuration required on any connected devices.

Like it had been voiced…I’m probably too late as well. In addition to advice by @craigski you have a mixed variety of  Sonos Components. Some are S1 and S2 compatible, some are S2 only and one is S1 only.

If using all Sonos products you must run a S1 and S2 systems. If not using the Play 5 (Gen1) all products should be on S2 ( the latest Sonos App).

I also use a few third party apps and find they work well. They weren’t free, but none of them have a subscription. What app are you using?
