I just wanted to say I genuinely disappointed and maybe even a little heart broken to see the decisions from Sonos. I have so many people I have set up with the ikea speakers because they disappear into the home. Just another slap in the face from a company that was once so great.
The IKEA speakers were some the nicest to add into the homes of so many of my friends and family. It everyone wants giant piece of hard plastic sticking out. I loved the way the line vanished into the home. Very sad to see so is make this decision. Profits before people once again.
While I agree the cooperation with IKEA was a great way to get people into the Sonos universe (my son bought a Gen 1 Symfonisk and now uses my Gen 1 Beam), I personally do not share your degree of disappointment. Companies will be companies. I was great while it lasted.
I can imagine very high support costs and return rates as users struggled with software glitches over the past year.
Does Sonos no longer work on existing Symfonisk devices? Or did IKEA just stop selling them?
Just checked the IKEA website:
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/symfonisk-series-60288/
They seem to be still selling them. Where did the ‘ending of the ikea collaboration’ come from? I’ve not seen any news stories.
Aha! On page two of my Google search, I found this:
https://www.wired.com/story/sonos-is-dumping-ikea-get-this-dollar19-device-while-you-can/
Unfortunate, but just because Sonos won’t be providing IKEA with further equipment doesn’t mean the currently existing equipment stops working. Much like all older Sonos speakers continue to be supported by Sonos’ software.
To my knowledge, there are only three things that Sonos no longer supports, two remotes (that Sonos made) and a 30 pin iPod connector (that Sonos made). Every Sonos speaker continues to be supported in some way, from the very first speakers they released.
I love my Symfonisk lamps. As mentioned they just blend into the decor and work as excellent surrounds, completing the Dolby Atmos experience…
Long may they be supported (probably as long as One SLs, I would imagine).
Indeed. Same storage space as the Play:1, half the storage of the One SL. Double the memory of the Play:1, same memory as the One SL.
I read Sonos have pledged to support them for years to come, just not making them any more…
Moderator edit: Two threads merged
Below is a website to IKEA store in my area. Models are in stock in store/short supply in store/out of stock/only available via online direct order.
Partnerships come and go between companies. Who’s to say it was solely a Sonos decision or IKEA. Too many factors for anyone outside of the organizations to know what caused the split. However as has been pointed out support for the products will continue as far as the Sonos side is concerned (speaker electronics). Stands, shades, light bulbs etc., I would imagine are not part of the Sonos support system.

The UK IKEA site still has a plentiful supply of the Symfonisk range - pretty much in stock everywhere. But I’d imagine once the news spreads, it will quickly become tougher to find what you need…!
I’m tempted by the floor lamp - does anyone have that? How stable is it..?

Very stable and not particularly difficult to assemble. The speaker body is quite large.

Thank you. I have two Symfonisk table lamps - I imagine, from the IKEA website, that the floor lamp speaker is pretty much just the table lamp on legs..??
