Please update the software so we can get Dolby Atmos via AirPlay on the Era 300. I was about to return my Era 300 because getting Dolby Atmos through the app was too much of a hassle, but when Apple announced that it would be available through AirPlay with iOS 18, I decided I’d keep it. But after a few weeks with iOS 18, I’m disappointed to see my Era 300 cannot get Dolby Atmos through AirPlay.

Really? It’s working fine on my HomePods.
Try this…unplug power from the speaker and wait 60 seconds and plug in power. let the speakers come back. Then test with AirPlay.
HomePods are Apple devices. I’d try with any non-Apple devices. My understanding is that Apple restricts it to only Apple devices (via a handoff, rather than actually streaming the content via AirPlay 2).

From Apple Press Release on June 10, 2024:
“AirPlay adds Spatial Audio so users can get an immersive audio experience, including support for Dolby Atmos, when using AirPlay to stream audio from iPhone and iPad to HomePod and compatible third-party audio equipment.”
So, then, your question is ‘is Sonos a compatible third party device’, I take it. I don’t recall any statement from Sonos, or Apple, nor have I seen anything on the Sonos FAQ on the sales page, although I’ll admit I haven’t checked recently. I’ll hope that either a Forum moderator sees your question, and responds, or that you call Sonos Support directly to discuss it, and report your findings here.

We know that Sonos is an AirPlay-compatible device, and that the Era 300 supports Dolby Atmos (it was essentially designed to make the most of Dolby Atmos). Rumor has it Apple wants Atmos via Airplay for their hardware only. Wouldn’t be the first time they limited advanced functionality to Apple only hardware.
Well, I missed it. I stand corrected.
It makes perfect sense that the Era 300 may not be able to stream Dolby Atmos over Airplay2 as Apple has just added the functionality. 3rd party speakers such as Sonos were developed under the old AirPlay codec. Apple would have to share what has changed with Sonos in order for Sonos to determine if Atmos over AirPlay can be added to current software via update. If not It may not happen until the next gen Era 300. Furthermore Apple’s statement about “compatible” speakers is very vague as to what 3rd party speakers might be involved.
Well, looks like we’re both speculating as this point. We can just as easily say “it makes perfect sense that the Era 300 is able to stream Dolby Atmos over AirPlay2” (for reasons I mentioned above). So until someone from Sonos is tasked with looking into it, they come to a conclusion, and they release a statement, it’s Schrödinger's speaker lol. It both can and cannot support Dolby Atmos via AirPlay 2. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why is Dolby Atmos a hassle through the app? I do it all the time. I do think there would be one advantage using AirPlay. Atmos via the Sonos app is not perfectly gapless. There is a slight glitch between tracks that are meant to be gapless. Mostly when the transition is during a loud passage. Maybe AirPlay would not suffer from that glitch.
