Access to My Music Library on a Mac

I’ve had this problem for a while and it got fixed yesterday by a Sonos support rep.

“Unable to add the music folder”, “Error 913”, “music files not available”, “username or password incorrect”, I’ve had them all and tried every solution I could find in the articles - multiple times.  The short version of the fix that worked was that the support rep made a new folder on the Mac under “users” and copied all my music to it.  Then he went to Sonos/ Manage Library Settings, clicked +, selected “Networked Folder and made the path “/users/”the new folder name” and it worked.  I was stunned as I had no expectation this would solve the problem.

I fully expect a new version or something will break this again in the future but for now I can play all the music on my hard drive in iTunes/Apple Music.  Hope this helps somebody out there.

I had the same problem a while back and got tired of updates breaking the connection to my library.

I do not expect Apple or Microsoft to stop releasing speculates that protect users. This is a necessary procedure in the work we live in.

What I did was purchase a NAS to store my local library and other files on. Once it was setup I no longer have connection issues that can be so frustrating!

Can anyone explain how this would work? My understanding is that S2 now requires an SMB share for the local Music Library. Unless the new folder was also configured as a share.

The more I see these posts the happier I am with my NAS that has been quietly working for several years with no surprises.

I, too, use an NAS, but I wonder if it has to do with ‘permissions’ to the various folders in use. If the OS changes permissions, that might block the sharing of the data via SMB…but this is merely conjecture, I’ve not any real world experience to deal with, despite being Apple centric….mostly.
