16.1

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

So, I had 16.1 working and things were OK, however, this morning I had a message saying that Sonos requires an update and will no longer work. So, I had no choice but to do the update. Is this an actual joke? My speakers went on full blast and then the app crashed, it took me to the google store. I was trying to play music from my queue, and it plays a different song than highlighted. I didn’t want to sell my 6 Sonos speakers, at a loss, but looks like that’s where I am headed. My new Bluesound speaker will be here this week, I am going to check it out, and if it’s good I will be replacing it all.

Also, did anyone notice that the sound quality changed with the app update? My music sounded tinny for the short time it played, before going full blast and me pressing the physical button to shut it off. (yay)

My Windows app seems OK still, but probably shortlived.

Me too. I tried deleting and reinstalling 16.1. Same problem. Will no longer functionon 16.1 New app still has no alarms and I cannot access my own music collection.

Disgraceful

I have a house full of sonos and I have been telling others to get sonos...I have bought some as presents for people.

I am now telling them to avoid sonos at all costs. This is terrible!

I am now looking for replacements.

Is there a way to get 16.1 working again?

No. But there is an app update still due this week so maybe that will be the magic wand that makes it all better…

Edit: by the way, the new app does have alarms.

Settings - Manage - Alarms.

Thanks Rhonny...I found how to get  the alarms to appear but they were not there initially. I also found my music collection...so this app seems to be nearly as good as 16.1 :-) So far!

Hey fam, the v16.3 firmware that dropped on 16 July packed a double whammy: the v16.1 kill switch and a nasty bug that is stopping the new app in its tracks for many Android users …

That's very unfortunate. If you can get 16.1 working somehow, please let me know.

I'm enraged.

On Android, had 16.1 working well, avoiding v80 because it has tons of serious issues.

Now Sonos blocked everything on 16.1, forcing to update to v80 and still this version sucks deeply.

I do not have alarms anymore (among other issues). It is NOT in settings/manage/alarms…

What a bunch of idiots.

Edit: I've side loaded v80.00 and tried it (no alarms), then went to play store to update to v80.04 and now alarms have appeared...

Sonos has stated that they do not force updates.

But, your speakers and all controller apps have to be running compatible versions. If auto updates are not turned off for all elements on your system there will be a need to update other components at some point.

Correct I have updates turned off on both the App Store and in the Sonos App and am on 16.1 application and 16.1.1 firmware and can confirm it is working for me

make sure you have turned off the firmware update!

Block sonos at your router or dns server.

update-firmware.sonos.com

update.sonos.com

That way your system will not no they there are updated available because of the missing connection.

I'm still running 16.1 without any issues.

OK, that would have been good to know before the S1 and S2 debacle!!  I could have kept my old Play 5’s. Can you tell me if I can downgrade the firmware on my speakers? I think I had the app updates blocked, but I may have allowed the Windows desktop one to update since I can no longer update the music library, so I was like, it’s already dead… I didn’t realize that that blunder allowed it to do the firmware thing and now 16.1 is cut off forever. What are they even doing??

If you have the latest firmware then I think it’s blocked from downgrade so you are stuck waiting for the fix

Even after factory reset? I did some googling and thought that might be an option. It might take an entire day though...

Update: I was able to downgrade to S1 using an old Iphone 7, has to be Iphone 7. No more 80, no more S2 for me.

S1 is amazing, the way Sonos was back when I loved it! I have two One SL's for sale, and I bought an old play five off Ebay. I will only buy old used equipment for the time being... yay.
