Why are Apple Music Artists not listed in accurate alphabetical order in Sonos App?

When I open the Sonos App and select Apple Music - Artists, I see all the artists in a kind of alphabetical-ish order. For example, all the As are together, the Bs together, etc. Yet there are a few random artists out of order. in B, everything is in the right order apart from Beck and Ben Folds Five, which appear after Buffalo Springfield (which would be the end of the B section ordinarily). There are a few of these, and it’s always a random artist or two at what is alphabetically the end of that letter.

The other issue is that all the ‘The’ artists appear under T rather than The Beatles under B etc.

Worth mentioning, all the artists are in the correct order in the Apple Music app.

Can anyone offer any help?

Because Apply supply the lists in that order. Sonos never mess with third party container data. Ask Apple.

Ok, that seems odd, as the lists are in the correct order in Apple Music

Does that mean there’s something in the metadata that is causing this? If so, does anyone know what it is so I can perhaps change it?

The Servers and API’s used to supply the Apple Music app are not the same as the SMAPI interface Apple employs for Sonos. They are 2 separate implementations, and may or may not be accessing the same data.

It’s the same with Apple Music user playlists. If you use the Apple Music sort option to order your music it will show in Sonos with some tracks out of order.

Sonos doesn’t change the order of anything that the streamer presents to it to show. Any changes would need to be made on the Apple side.

That ordering issue & some trouble with Apple Music Atmos playback is why I now favor using Amazon Music Unlimited for Atmos.
