Radio station sounding slowed down

Has anybody got any idea what is wrong with one of the radio stations I want to listen to? Beverley FM is available in the Sonos Radio & TuneIn services, but when I play it, it sounds like it’s running at half speed - really odd. The same station sounds perfectly OK on the Android TuneIn app, and at their own website. Any idea what is going wrong with their stream?

Well, it seems to have been fixed. The contact at the station changed the stream format from AAC+ to AAC, and for me it now sounds perfect. Solved!

I suspect Sonos Radio is using the TuneIn connection to play (the same server endpoint at Beverly FM), so it isn’t surprising that both are affected. Have you checked with Beverly FM? It sounds like there may be an issue in their side.

I have asked them...no reply yet...

They are puzzled! The person who replied has a Sonos system himself, and it sounds fine to him. Can a few people here try Beverley FM to see how it sounds to them?

Interesting. It certainly doesn’t make any sense to me, I can think of no reason for data to ‘play’ back at any speed other than the speed that it was presented in.

I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of reproducing the issue, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Do not factory reset any units. Also, don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

I’ve tried, and for me this station is not listenable on Sonos at all - both via Sonos Radio & TuneIn services.
At the same time plays perfectly in the Android TuneIn app.
On my Sonos it is not slowed down but rather drastically chopped - plays ~1 second, then several seconds pause, then again plays ~1 second, etc……
So looks like kinda performance bottleneck in their connection to Sonos.

Just in case, I’m not in the UK.
Interesting where does the support person who replied to you reside.

Note that in most cases, the server used to connect to Sonos (using either TuneIn or Sonos radio) is a different one than using other ways, like TuneIn’s own app, or a services app. This is likely due to two things…one, it becomes much easier to track the source of the connection (for marketing purposes), and two, the source needs to include SMAPI, the way that Sonos is able to recognize the data being sent.

....but soon after I typed that, they went off air completely, FM signal too.

Bleh, sorry to hear that. I’d ‘like’ your post, but I’m never happy to hear of stations failing.
