Question

Custom radio is STILL missing for a too long time now

The end of the ‘old’ Tunein has terminated the custom radio stream for a too long time already. There is a very cumbersome way to get it back, but it requires far too many steps and the custom links are sent to the favortires where they cannot be edited.

The feature still exists in the Windows App but it is useless.

I went to Sonos because of this feature and I’m not the only one in this case.

So, WHEN WILL YOU HAVE AN ELEGANT SOLUTION to the infuriating lack of this feature???

Hi @PhilippeM

Thanks for your post!

I can’t give you a date, but I can flag this post as a feature request for you and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

I mean these are premium audio gear for streaming, how do you not support adding custom radio stations (other than through a third party which requires an account). This can’t be that hard. Please alert the team.

When the company also owns a subscription radio service they don’t have a very good incentive to make accessing streams outside an app easy IMO.

Hi @User09347383920202183464349075 ,

That’s the point, exactly. Sonos tend, like the GAFAM, to keep you captive to their ecosystem. It was not the case, or it seems to me, when I originally bought the whole thing. Furthermore, I don’t like Sonos Radio since I have to listen to regularly their jingle. Maybe, if I pay, I can get rid of the annoyance but why pay for something I don’t like. If you buy a car you do not have to drive only on selected roads chosen by Ford or Chevy … Sonos is selling speakers, period.

What‘s the problem? There are plenty of radio services available for Sonos. Nobody forces you to take Sonos Radio. And there are no exclusive options you can only use with Sonos Radio besides their own curated streams.
So take it or leave it and choose the service that fits best for you.

Hello @Schlumpf,

Thank you for your reply. Let’s summarize:

  1. Last year Sonos rolled out a new version of the S2 application which turned out to be a nightmare for a LOT of users,
  2. Meanwhile, the firmware has been also updated as far as I understand so there is no way out of the new application,
  3. Since then, there is no easy way to add custom radios,
  4. Furthermore, listening to previously defined custom radios is not reliable anymore or at least less reliable,
  5. Someone says that the users may use Sonos Radio instead,
  6. I don’t use Sonos Radio because it has no value for me,
  7. Finally, I own a system which is less reliable while listening to radios which are not part of the Sonos ecosystem,
  8. I understand that I’m not an exception when I read the numerous topics related to this problem.

I guess it should be clear enough for Sonos to encourage them to do something about this. And, no, I won’t use Sonos Radio. There is no need to remind me that I don’t have to, but I would be very glad to have the previous feature and reliability of the former custom radios.

That‘s the point… „someone“ tells something and someone else tells something more. What about talking facts instead!? 😉

There is no exclusive way and also no way at all to get custom url stations via Sonos radio. So „someone“ was talking about things he didn’t know much about.

The facts are: TuneIn no longer supports adding custom url stations directly to Sonos. So the only workaround is adding them directly within TuneIn app, adding them to TuneIn favorites there and having access to to these favorites also via Sonos app.
In the end this wasn’t a change caused by new s2 system, but changeing from TuneIn old to TuneIn new.
