slider in ios far too sensitive and lower volumes are impossible

I am sure all our issues has been discussed before but a search for anything around ‘volume’, ‘controls’, ‘slider’ or ‘app’ comes back with 100’s of results.

Our Sonos products:

- 3 Play one

- 1 Sub

- Newest/Latest Sonos app (iOS) S2

- Sonos multi room/group (2 rooms/groups with same music but different volumes)

- Spotify Premium Family account

- Superior glassfiber internet (1.000 Mb up/down)

- Stable WiFi 6 router and access points (Fritzbox). Many smart devices, all working correctly.

We tried a Sonos cable connection and WiFi connection. The Sonos cable connection is even worse.

- Good WiFi reception on all Sonos speakers

- Apple iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro to operate the Sonos app.

We have been using Sonos for 8 years now. At the first 7 years we were very enthusiastic about it. The last 12 months we hardly ever use Sonos anymore. The app updates we had to suffer are absolutely horrible!!!! Downgrading is impossible… 😔

Most of the time we listen to music via Sonos for 15 minutes or so and then get so frustrated that we get our single WiFi speaker from B&O or Bose (whatever the kids don’t use at that moment) to enjoy music.

We have reached the point that we are ashamed that we once used to promote the Sonos service to friends and family. The kids have given up hope and no longer use Sonos for several months now.

1. The main problem is the (new) app, the selection of music from Spotify, the RESPONSE TIME to pause, next track, volume up/down, change playlists. After 15-30 seconds the Sonos system responds or partially responds (1 of 3 speakers)

2. We mostly use our Sonos at lower volumes.  4-10 at the max. Although we don’t have big hands/fingers it is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE TO ADJUST THE VOLUME from 6 to 5 or 4. We are supposed to slide 0,05 mm on a slider with a size of 0,7 mm. How?!? Who designed this?!? Why don’t you extend the slider on left side so we can tap on it to adjust the volume by one number/step at the time ? Or make a + and - button to achieve this. We used to use the buttons on the iPhone but they no longer work for quite some time now (and I know why).

3. THE VOLUME HAS A MIND OF HIS OWN. When trying to adjust the volume (see point 2) most of the time the volume continues to change for 1 minute up and down (and on 1 or 2 of the 3 speakers and sub. Crazy!!

4. The music often changes from VOLUME CHANGES EVERY NOW AND THEN. So when playing a song the first part is okay and then it decreases the increases the volume. Even Ik ben nu op de fiets we have not changed the volume for minutes.

5. SPEAKERS SPONTANEOUSLY STOP AND CONTINUE PLAYING. Also the music suddenly stutters on 1 or 2 speakers or all 3.

6. SYSTEM UNAVAILABLE AT START UP APP/LOADING.
When you open the app. The app is frozen and is loading. The message system unavailable appears for a few seconds. This also happens when looking into the settings or adjusting volume/playlists while it is use. Besides this when changing the settings or volume you must make your change within a second or so or else the page is closed and you return to the previous screen.

when changing the song, the song that you played before (mostly several songs back) is showing for at least 15 seconds. You have to wait till the correct song is showing up…

This is a ultimate effort to report the pure basic utilities of Sonos that don’t function anymore.

Please stop adding useless features to the app when the basics are still inferior.

Despite the letter from the CEO of Sonos with his apologies for the new app we have been very patient but nothing changes. I expect that we wait till the end of 2024 and if nothing has changed for the better that at New Year’s Eve we blow up our Sonos so we get released from the suffering and burdens that Sonos has brought to our doorstep with the new app!!!

Hi @FamSloof .  I do not doubt for a second that the lag issues you are experiencing make your system virtually unusable.  It must be infuriating.  I am simply demonstrating that your experience is not the Sonos norm.  I think you should call Sonos Support.  But obviously it’s your choice

I think this clip from a Play:1 on my S2 system has sound.

“They claim it is due to the low hardware specifications of the Play 1 that are required to use the S2 app. This is probably why you don't recognize our experience.”

This is absolute  nonsense.

I have just tried with a Play:1 on my system and it behaved identically.  Having trouble posting the links for some reason but will try again later.

I suppose that the problems in my Sonos system are showing because of the 2 pairs (rooms) with a stereo pair that I use and that I always play the music on both rooms at the same time.

room 1:

play 1

play 1

sub

room 2:

play 1

play 1

the last few weeks I found out that all my family members that own a Sonos system (4 families) experience the exact same issues that I have. The all own pairs of older Sonos devices (play 1, play 3, play 5 and soundbars). And they all are frustrated and still struggling to play music… it’s insane!!

So it is obvious that we are screwed by Sonos and that our devices have become completely useless. I also own a Bose soundtouch speaker. I was so surprised and happy to see this speaker do exactly what I want, it sounds absurd but I was ably to start, pause and change songs and even volume within a second!!! This is so great!!!

we throw out all of our Sonos stuff and buy a real WiFi speaker system.

And you still haven’t discussed this with Sonos?

Great news for all people suffering from the lag problems on Sonos play devices. During resetting the devices for throwing them away as the are completely useless with the new app update, I discovered something interesting!!

When you have only one Play 1 device (delete all other devices) in your system then the S2 app with the horrific update works fine. The volume slider works and it’s even possible to change a song/playlist or pause and continue the song.

I was so surprised!!! So I added an other Play 1 device. The app suggested to pair them as a stereo pair, which I did. Now the devices are again completely useless!! All problems mentioned above are back. I will unpair the stereo again and see what happens.

Okay, so two separate Play 1’s can be used. It is a bit less responsive as only one Play 1 but acceptable. I will add the sub now and see what happens.

So I added the sub. I added it to one Play 1 device. The play 1’s are still not a stereo pair (as suggested by the app). Most problems have returned. It takes about 7 seconds to stabilize the volume again and pausing the song takes also about 7 seconds. This is great news!! Before it took about 20 seconds for the volume to stabilize and also went up and down.
