macOS controller and Apple Silicon

Yes, I realize that this has been asked before, but with macOS losing Rosetta 2 with macOS 28, coming out in 2027, is there any chance of the desktop Sonos app being ported to Apple silicon?

I primarily use the macOS app, and am not really looking forward to relying on the web app, since I live in an area with poor internet availability.

Since they haven’t done any work (other than egregious bug fixing) on either the Windows or Mac ‘desktop’ apps for years, in favor of their web app, it does seem unlikely that there would be resources dedicated to a port.

Does no-one look in the App Store for Sonos apps? Guess not. Shame. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/phonos-ultimate-for-sonos/id6740011689

@Traveltype, The S1 only Sonos products are up to 20 years old Linux computers. There is no way to “address” this fact. Anyway, has nothing to do with the Sonos S1/S2 apps (Windows/macOS/Android/iOS) which are merely WiFi remote controls.

Just a lot of bad experiences with Apple. My last Apple device just told me it won't update as the latest os requires more free memory than I have.

On the other hand my Sonos, back to a first generation Play 1, are happily playing music.

BS!!  Sonos dropped support for the original Play 3, Play 5 and the original Sonos Amp.  They tried to get everyone to trade them in, but that didn’t work.  Yes they will still play music.  The only way was to download the original S1 app to your phone.  They are no better than any other company dropping support for older products, and now refusing to keep up with technology they have had six years to address.

How odd, my Play 1 and 3 are still working fine, the Play Store has the S1 app available. Not sure how that is dropping support. Stopping further development yes but they are still supported.

For a short time Sonos tried a trade offer, wasn't popular so they changed it to "keep your old Sonos but here is a 30% discount anyway."

They did drop support for the CR-100 controllers but there was plenty of warning, giving users the choice of adding new features or keeping the CR.

Oh you mean like Apple giving a six year waring on Apple Silicon?  LOL

It’s not like Sonos was caught by surprise. They never planned on offering an Apple Silicon version. I suppose that’s their right to decide not to spend the developer resources on it. Just as it’s your right make a choice based on that.

I do hope they change their mind, but I’m not holding my breath.

Sonos dropped further improvements to the Windows-/macOS app back in 2018 with the launch of v8.0. I bet you haven’t even tried out the Web controller yet (requires S2).

hi - i went to the app store and looked and was going to say that i’ve bought so many janky apps that i don’t like paying up front without trying, i’m sure yours isn’t that but is there any way to trial it for 5 days then pay? looks solid and at that price i’d do it but the shaming comment irked me, so i’ll sit on the fence and get your thoughts first.

First off check the reviews: they are all real reviews, none of the hundreds of 5 star bulk-purchased reviews the sketchy apps have. Secondly the Windows version has a 7-day free trial, and has the exact same feature set as the Mac version. If you get the Mac version and don’t like it you can get a refund from Apple - my refund rate is low.
