The indications are that the Play:1 lacks the hardware necessary for Airplay 2, and that it cannot be added by a firmware update. Therefore this appears to be a 'no'.
Basically this shouldn’t be legal. If taking the feature “On this iPhone” out of the app means that a user can no longer make use of the installation for which they’ve paid many hundreds of Pounds, Dollars etc.
Sonos, be aware I shall never buy another Sonos product if I can no longer use my speaker network.
I am not about to invest time and money upgrading something that has until now worked perfectly fine.
