Howdy y’all! We have a new Sonos App update out today and it’s a really big one: Android widgets, rearranging your list of music services, portable surrounds(!), and so much more. A more complete list is below and the full list of changes can be found in our App release notes and Player release notes.

This update is rolling out in phases, so it may take up to two weeks to reach your device. No action is needed - it will install automatically once it's available to you (if Automatic Updates are enabled).

iOS users: You can check availability early by opening the App Store, tapping your account icon, and pulling down to refresh. If it's not there yet, that means the update hasn't reached your device in the rollout. It's on the way.

App Update Details

iOS - 89.00.54

Android - 89.00.49

Player Update Details

Modern Players - 97.1-80312

Legacy Players - 86.10.80260

New Sonos App features in this update:

  • Our new navigation experience is coming to you! This will be rolling out in phases over the next month and removing the “Enable Improved Navigation” toggle.
  • MCP Support - Sonos 27mcp brings our partnership with Anthropic and OpenAI to Sonos. Train your own personal agents to learn and play your favorite music. You can try it out here!
  • Virtual Volume Knob - Easily control the volume of your current room or group with a two-finger tap-and-rotate gesture on any screen.
  • Reorder Music Services - Added ability to rearrange your list of connected services.
  • Delete Recently Played - Added ability to delete items from Recently Played.
  • Swipe-based queue actions when browsing - Easily add items to the current queue with a swipe-right gesture.
  • Updated iPad layout - Additional iPad layout improvements to make better use of larger screen sizes.
  • Easily refresh the Sonos app - Pull down to refresh content on the Home tab.
  • Home Theater improvements for iOS App Intents - Additional iOS Shortcuts actions, now supporting Night Sound and Speech Enhancement for home theater products.
  • Album and artist info - Easily access Artist and Album pages by tapping on Now Playing content metadata.
  • Saved Groups - Added ability to reorder your Groups at the top of the grouping menu.
  • Portable Surrounds - Use a pair of compatible portable speakers as dynamic rear surrounds for supported soundbars.
  • Android App Widgets - Enable Sonos control widgets on your Android home screen.

From all of us here at Sonos we want to give a big “Thank you” to all of you, our fans and customers, and look forward to hearing your thoughts on these changes! As always, if you have any questions or feedback, please leave a comment below and tell us what’s on your mind.

Edit: I forgot about the Android App widget!

For some reason Claude is not including Qobuz as an included service.  Anyone know why?

Two things:
When does all this roll to Android?  I have the current version and reordering services and the volume control are not implemented.

More importantly, as noted above, please bring back the ability to resume a playlist when a radio station or TV input has been selected.  I can confirm, the list is still in there and easily accessible via the desktop app so please return this function to the app.

It’s not clear in the OP that most of these are iOS only at this point. It is listed as such in the release notes. Hopefully these come to the Android app soon.

This:

  • Album and artist info - Easily access Artist and Album pages by tapping on Now Playing content metadata.

When playing from a Music Library, this only shows “Go to” album. No “Go to” artist. It would be great if it did. I would much more often want to quickly get to the artist, not the album I’m already listening to.

this is pretty awesome, worked with codex and played with it a little today.

It’d be great if we could send playlists to the mcp, select which apple music (or any other service) account to use if you have multiple accounts, support Tidal, maybe get a track end or some sort of notification (although I understand why it doesn’t do it, I guess I could check the time length of the track before sending it), and the ability to queue songs.

I’m sure there’s more, but I’ve only played with it for a couple of hours.

Great!

Something I've asked for showed up and I missed it initially. On Amazon if you tap the Artist / album on the now playing screen you get a handy popup.

From the music library you get this one.

Don't have other services loaded to see if they have something similar.

It’s in the OP. In fact, I mentioned it in this very thread earlier this week. I was disappointed that it only has Go To album and not also Go To artist for the Music Library.

Went back to look and found this, never figured out what that meant when I first read it so when I found it by tapping the artist name it was surprise.

Album and artist info - Easily access Artist and Album pages by tapping on Now Playing content metadata.

Haven't figured out a couple others. On Android if it matters.

Reorder Music Services - Added ability to rearrange your list of connected services.

I can set my preferred one, but no clue how to reorder the others.

Delete Recently Played - Added ability to delete items from Recently Played.

But how, darned if I can figure it out.

Swipe-based queue actions when browsing - Easily add items to the current queue with a swipe-right gesture.

Can't figure out the swipe, tapping gets the expected menu, swipe nothing.

Even found a problem, in landscape mode in the Group menu the keyboard won't open when you tap the Name line, it does open in portrait mode though.

This waiting for 10+ days for the rolling release to get to me has really reduced my enthusiasm for digging out the old (by then) announcement topic when the release finally activates and going through it. Kinda like your mom saying Merry Christmas, you have presents under the tree but you can't open them until the  new year, while the other kids get theirs sooner. Maybe I should get used to adding a 10 day later link to the announcement in my calendar?
