I have enabled lossless in my Spotify account on the desktop and my phone as well as installed the latest software update for Sonos from the S2 app. Does this mean lossless should be playing through the Play 3 left and right speakers I have in one room ( as well as the sub and playbar) and Play 1 left and right speakers in another ( as well as sub and playbar)? Spotify on the desktop connects to the speakers and does from my phone too via S2.  It may be my perception but the sound certainly seems to have improved and I am hearing the music in a way that appears so much clearly defined and crisp than before. If lossless is not supported with my set up then the improvement is a figment of my imagination.

As far as I know, Spotify Lossless still isn’t supported on Sonos.

Spotify Lossless is not yet supported on Sonos speakers, so it could be your imagination indeed.
Plus, the list of supported speakers for Apple Music Lossless doesn’t include either the Play 1 nor the Play 3 so, assuming it will be the same for Spotify Lossless, neither should be able to play lossless music unfortunately.
Here’s the list of supported speakers for Apple Music Lossless:

  • All generations of the Move
  • All generations of the Roam, including SL editions
  • Five
  • Play:5 gen 2
  • Era 300
  • Era 100
  • One all generations, including SL editions
  • Arc all generations, including SL editions
  • Ray
  • Amp
  • Port
  • Connect
  • SYMFONISK Table Lamp (all generations)
  • SYMFONISK Bookshelf (all generations)
  • SYMFONISK Floor Lamp

Spotify Lossless isn’t yet supported on Sonos — playback is limited to Spotify Connect’s standard 320 kbps Ogg Vorbis stream. The improved clarity you hear is likely due to the latest Sonos or Spotify updates, not true lossless audio.

Apple Music is the only lossless service available on Sonos with this restriction. If you check other services like Tidal or Qobuz, they don’t specify anything like that. From a post on Reddit I understood that it is related to the type of DRM Apple uses. If Spotify uses the same technology as Tidal or Qobuz, lossless music won’t be a problem on these older speakers.

Spotify lossless is available. I have spoken to the shop I bought my speakers from and they have explained that it is not my perception but the fact that CD quality is what I am hearing. It was obviously a technical explanation but I cannot remember it all. Thank you for the constructive comments made by those who left them.

I’m from the Netherlands, one of the first countries where Spotify Lossless was actually available. This is what the Spotify app says when I set the app to lossless and try to play to one of my Sonos speakers: setting not yet available. What does the Spotify app say when you try this?

I have enabled lossless on Spotify.

I have enabled lossless on Spotify.

Enabling lossless within Spotify app doesn’t mean you are automatically getting lossless on Sonos.

No-one said it does.

If you would really get lossless on Sonos as your shop tells you, what does the app say when you play lossless on your phone and switch to Sonos?

Read my post carefully. It is self explanatory. The app wishes me a good weekend when I play lossless on the phone. It is very kind.

Your initial post was about playing Spotify lossless on Sonos. Nobody is questioning that lossless is available on Spotify alone.

I’m from the Netherlands. Today (21 oktober 2025) I saw that Spotify Lossless is now available on my Sonos Speakers (Era 300 (2), Arc en Sub 3). The batch is visible when I play a song in the Spotify App and also in the Sonos S2 App.

Yep. It works for me too now.
