Turntable Set Up For Starters, But Building to More.

Hi everybody

Black friday is coming up and I would really like to get stuck into some Sonos products. Initially, I have to base it around my Project T1 turntable. I have the phono box E BT, so Bluetooth connectivity shouldn't be a problem. I need something that can start me off but can play a part in a set up for the future. Also one more question, my experience with wireless BT speakers is that they fizzle out quite fast, tbf that was Sony and JBL quality so I am assume Sonos is better...? Because I do need it to make to my ultimate set up for when I move out. Is it safer to go something that can plug in, or is that living in the past?

Although both work, I would personally choose to use a ‘line-level’ connection, between TT and a Sonos speaker, rather than Bluetooth wireless. Or maybe have the option to use both. Here are the Sonos devices that work with a line-level connection and/or Bluetooth Rx:

  • Port/Connect (no BT Rx)
  • Amp/Connect:Amp (no BT Rx)**
  • Five/Play:5 (gen2) (no BT Rx)**
  • Era-100 (has BT Rx) (requires additional dongle)**
  • Era-300 (has BT Rx) (requires additional dongle)**
  • Sonos Move 2 (has BT Rx) (requires additional dongle)
  • Sonos Roam/SL - has no line-in, but has BT Rx only

** Note: If any of the above compatible devices are used as a HT Surround, then their line-in port and Bluetooth Rx both become disabled.

Once the TT is connected it can play to any/all Sonos products.

I perhaps should have added that my own choice would be to go with an Era-300 Speaker and one of the audio adapters, as I find that a good all round ‘great sounding’ speaker. Then perhaps continue to build your multi-room A/V wireless Home system from there.

Okay, after reading the responses I think I understand everything, but I want to be sure before purchasing more.  1st, I love my SONOS system.  I’ve have (2) Play 5’s, (4) Play 1’s, Sub and TV Bar.

I have a Sony TT  PS-LX300 and Klipsh R-51PM currently playing my Vinyl, and it sounds average.

I love the idea of incorporating a TT into my Sonos system and playing it in every room in the house. I also noticed 2 different SONOS TT’s listed on the product page.  Which one is better and can it stream to the SONOS Play 5 wirelessly???  or if I wire the SONOS TT to one Play 5, can I then stream it to the other speakers via the App, which is how I stream from my Desktop?

 

Sorry if this is confusing.  Trying to simplify for an old man where technology is passing him by!

Any of the turntables will sound excellent.

None of them are wireless, you would use an RCA cable to connect from them to your speakers. A 3.5 mm stereo plug on the other end if you want to use one of the Play 5s as the host.

Once connected to the Play 5 you can share it with any of your other Sonos.

 

I’m not a fan of Bluetooth for connecting high quality audio, preferring a wired connection. I have seen comments that the newer Sonos that offer a Bluetooth v5 connection are pretty good but haven’t heard one myself.
