Sonos Port Alarm and AVR that 'Works with Sonos'

I’m wanting to understand if I connect a Sonos Port to an AV Receiver that is ‘Works with Sonos’ certified, will the AVR switch on automatically if a connected Sonos Port has an active alarm?

I couldn’t find any of this information in the documentation or on this site so wanted to ask here. Hoping someone who has used a Sonos Port in this way can respond.

Based on the answer I can decide if I should purchase a Sonos Port.

Two good options, a call to Sonos support, these forums are mostly user to user with little Sonos presence.

Second call someone experienced at selling integrated systems. Crutchfield Com would be my first choice, they sell Sonos as well as a wide number of recievers (2 to 14[?] channels) that mention works with Sonos in their technical information.

Maybe I'm missing something in the conversation and it’s just way over my head which is not beyond the realm of possibility. I get it that “Works with Sonos” is not just something that anyone can throw on a product just the same as THX Certified can't be branded on any component. There is a certification process for both.

The information below is in the link I posted that is a general overview of how a product that “Works with Sonos”; which in the example and in this thread is an AMP, AVR or whatever terminology you choose to use. Granted it’s two years old but the products at the time were limited. Also as in the information below and pertinent to this thread the Sonos Port is the lynch-pin.

Outside of what is presented below I’m at a loss to understand what “deep dive” information one hopes to gleam from Crutchfield or any retailer that sells equipment branded as “Works with Sonos”.

Currently, Integra, Onkyo, Sony & Pioneer have the “Works With Sonos” label.

What does this really mean?

Once a Sonos Port is integrated with these receivers, selecting the Room (and music) on the Sonos App that the receiver operates in will:

  1. Turn on the receiver
  2. Select the Sonos Port input
  3. Set the volume different than watching TV (generally much higher than TV, CD etc volume)
  4. You then use the Volume on your Sonos app to control volume (just like all other Sonos listening areas).

Selecting all other sources like TV will return the volume back to a comfortable level.  The receiver also eventually powers down automatically after use.

Search for (manufacturer) “works with Sonos”. At least for one manufacturer that I tried, AI provided data that agrees with the above. Always follow AI advice with care. Even though manufacturer ABC supports “works with Sonos”, this probably is not the case for most of their older models.

If we knew the specific model involved a user of that model might come forward.
