two sources

If I’m understanding your question correctly, the beam can only play tv/hdmi or music. Not both. If he wants to hear the tv/beam in another room, you would group another sonos speaker with the beam. But the beam will need to be playing from tv/hdmi. You can have other speakers playing music, but not the beam in this case.

That’s right. When I’m playing music from the other speakers, there is no sound coming from the beat which is attached to the tv. I don’t see how in the app to separately set the source for the beam to the tv. I’ve attached a couple of screen shots. Thank you! 

Again, I’m not sure I understand the question, but how is the Beam connected to the TV? Is it via the line in, as you have in your system, currently, or via the HDMI input, which (and I’m not at home to look), isn’t called the line in? What other sources show up when you click on that ‘line in’ line in your controller?

Or, to put it differently, is the source on the Beam set to ‘auto detect’ the TV’s input?

Let me see if I can answer that. I assume all this is on the app and not in the beam itself. Just a minute. 

Oh I found it! Thank you! Somehow the tv got  disconnected from the beam and I had to set it up again. 🤷‍♀️ All is working separately now. This is such a headache sometimes. Appreciate the responses today! ❤️
