Question

system glitches since s2

Before s2, my system worked great. Now, i have a laundry list of issues with my super expensive speaker system.

1. Grouping works sometimes  and sometimes it doesn't. No errors. Just looks like it is creating the group and it never does. Usually,  I have to reboot the speakers, sometimes multiple times, before i can create the group.

2. The volume control will just dissappear for some speakers in the group. This is random. One of the speakers will be normal one time, and then not work the next time. It doesn't seem to matter what speakers are grouped either. I might group a One and a Roam and another One and the volume line will be totally blank for one speaker.

3. Even though all speakers are present in the app, none of them will play music from Youtube music or Sonos radio. I just get a message that something went wrong. This is always over wifi. I don't streamm directly to any speaker from my phone.

4. Music will be playing over a group and I will lose all control. I can't  stop the music or change the volume. I have to unplug the speakers to get them to stop.

5. I have an android, s23, and my wife has an iphone16. If I'm controlling a group and she opens the app on her phone,  I will lose control of the group even if she closes the app. We don't use apple airplay.

It's so bad that I now tell people not to waste their money on Sonos. I used to be a huge proponent of Sonos. I tried the support chat but the AI couldn't come up with a solution and decided to send me to sales support. When that person read the chate, they sent me to technical support who didn't respind after 25 minutes.

So, my question is, is this an app thing or a device firmware/software thing? Both? Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

I have 2 Beams, 1 Roam, 1 Arc with a sub, 1 One with sub, 1 One, 2 One SL. My voice assistant is alexa

My android app is fully up to date and so is my phone. All updates have been installed.

Probably a Wi-Fi interference issue, we users can try to assist or you can send Sonos a diagnostic and call in to have it analyzed and get help fixing things.

There is definitely a network issue. As @Stanley_4 said you can run a diagnostic and call Sonos tech to speak to a person. Do not publish the reference ID in the community. If you want help from the community, you’ll have to describe your network.

Some Information we need:

  1. Is your network gear provided by your ISP
  2. Is your network a single modem and router?
  3. Is your network a MESH consisting of a main router and one or more satellites
  4. Are you using your personal network gear (single router or MESH) connected to an ISP modem/router
  5. If #2 or #4 has the ISP router been placed in Bridge mode?

This is mainly a start. There are some trouble shooting steps I can suggest; but hesitate to elaborate until the above questions are answered. Additional questions may follow.

In the meantime, do not factory reset your speakers as it erases data that might be useful in a diagnostic.

The most general suggestion without doing a factory reset (bad!) is to reset your network. Some routers, particularly older versions, can get messed up with duplicate IP addresses. Easiest (possibly relatively, depends on your system) is to unplug all Sonos devices from power, then, while they are unplugged, reboot your router. Give the router a couple of minutes to boot up and reload, then plug back in your Sonos devices. I had to do this frequently with an old router I had (and it may have been just a bad firmware it had), although not so much these days..but either way, a ‘fresh’ network is always best.

It’s never a bad idea to familiarize yourself with the wifi interference FAQ, but ultimately, due to the access they have to data we don’t, I’d follow @AjTrek1 ‘s suggestion, and call in, and speak to a person, not the chat bot.

I have a mesh wifi 7 setup with 2gig fiber from att. My Orbi router has one mesh ap connected to it with a dedicated 5GHz back channel. There haven't been any ip conflicts. Also, no other device in my smart home setup has issues.

Please, What tools did you use to verify the IP conflict issue? I have struggled to get a clear picture of my situation here.

Also, have you found a tool to monitor NAT related issues that also appear to possibly be an issue here?

I'd  also like to point out that the only thing that has changed is the s2 install. I had zero issues before

Great! Although there aren’t many tools that have the ability to see IP conflicts, and other devices don’t very often use the network in the ways Sonos does. But I’m glad you’ve ruled out network problems as a potential. So what did support say?

I couldn't get through  on chat. I will try calling them. One thing I haven't tried is reserving each speaker's address.

I looked in my routers logs for conflicts and there weren't any. I'll post if the reservation thing works.

Router logs most often wouldn’t show IP conflicts. They’re not designed for that type of reporting. I’d still recommend that network refresh.

When you call in, make sure you’re talking to a human, and not a chatbot. While the chatbot is extremely useful for many things, a human tends to be better. Using the online chat only connects to a chatbot.

I’m a bit puzzled. Your first post regarding your issue was November 2026. You mentioned that the issue started when you switched to S2. How long ago did you make the switch?

Hi

1. Gruppierung funktioniert manchmal und manchmal nicht. Keine Fehler.
