Bandcamp search still not working on desktop app

Hi, I can see from other postings this has been an issue for years. Has Sonos made any progress rectifying?

I believe you can only listen to Bandcamp purchases in the Sonos Bandcamp service. That’s why I removed it a while back, after first trying it. I have all my Bandcamp purchases in my music library.

All Sonos does is pass the request to Bandcamp, then display what the Bandcamp response is. How certain are you that this is a Sonos issue? Have you submitted a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of reproducing the issue, and called Sonos Support to discuss it? Do not factory reset any units. Also, don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

Hi Airgetlam, thanks for your reply. Not certain at all whether it’s specifically a Sonos issue or not. I can just see posts going back 6 years asking the same question, with some submitting the diagnostics you mentioned to no avail. If it’s a problem intrinsic to Bandcamp then isn’t it also Sonos’s issue if they’re offering it as a service but it doesn’t work? Do you think it’s worth calling Sonos support with submitted diagnostics, even if others have done this and it wasn’t resolved? I suppose I won’t know unless I try.

Heh, you do have a point…but based on the way most (all?) other stream’s search function works, it sure suggests to me that the Bandcamp servers aren’t responding properly. I’d definitely submit that diagnostic and then call in, though. If it turns out to be a Sonos issue, then the hard data provided in the submission would likely help a Sonos coder figure out what is wrong. If it is (as I suspect), a Bandcamp issue (perhaps inappropriately implemented SMAPI on their server, but I’m guessing), then being able to provide the hard data that you’ve submitted might help the Bandcamp engineers figure out why the search function isn’t returning the correct data to the Sonos client.

The challenge often is that everyone assumes that anecdotal information is enough. My experience with software and QA engineers is that they often want is a repro case, so they can actually see what might be going on.

I know I’ve seen threads in the past about this issue, I don’t recall (although it has been a while) that there have been a lot of data submissions, followed by a call, to tell the Sonos folks to actually look at the submission.

It ultimately is up to you, to decide if investing your time feels worthwhile. My suspicion is that a post here in these community forums won’t move the needle much, or achieve the goal you seem to be looking for.

Thanks again for that. I’ll try and make some time, and then post any positive outcome.

I have a Bandcamp account so I just added Bandcamp to sonos and I’m not seeing a problem searching bandcamp using the desktop controller (macOS) or mobile app (iOS). What is the problem you are experiencing?

Hi, thanks for that. I’m on Mac 26.6.2 with the latest update applied to the app (Sonos Controller for Mac 17.2.5). Search simply doesn’t work – this is the consistent reply when I search in any category:

macOS here is 26.7.2. If I search for Dylan I get the same results. But I don’t have any Bandcamp purchases with Dylan in the Artist, Album or Song name. If I search for anything in my purchases, it finds it.

Yes, doesn’t seem to be able to search beyond purchased music. Is this as intended, or should it be able to search all music as I can on the Bandcamp site?

Thanks for the info! Not sure though why It can’t play what I can play on Bandcamp more generally. But mystery solved!

It’s also possible the Mac controller, which has essentially been retired (along with the Windows controller) may not have received the updates that the mobile controllers (Android and iOS, fully supported) have. The Mac and Windows controllers, which no longer receive updates, are discussed at length in many, many threads. You’re probably better off trying the search in either a mobile device, or the web controller, both of which are supported.
