Unknown, there has been no announcement from Sonos as of yet. And Apple just announced this system today.

Seems unlikely, initially, but possible over time. I suspect it has more to do with how much needs to be done interface wise to the current iOS controller. It might be an easy thing to do. We’ll have to see.

Thank you. It sounds like the operating system is based on CarPlay and could be configured easily into that new device. Well, at least trying to get it on Sonos’s radar at this time.

I think you are a little bit early to the party… Sonos just released quite much of their own new software, and so I’m sure before adding support for a brand new external thing, they will try to improve their own new software for a while.

This article:

seems to imply it’s a CarPlay port, not an iOS app, which may complicate things, since Sonos has never needed to support CarPlay before. And, I suspect, there’s a certain amount of balance Sonos needs to maintain between Apple and Android (Google), essentially not choosing one over the other. Which is to say, it may not be an immediate priority, but something that eventually gets released. As to time frame, it really depends, I think, on how much effort is involved, and what their programming resources are working on.

Of course, I’m not guaranteeing it, but recognize it may not be an immediate priority, either. I suspect it would be nice, but I’m still unsure of the true interface on this device. Still taking in all the data.

Edit: it also is a likely issue that Apple has said it won’t currently be sold in the EU, either.

I wonder if more iPhone or Android users have Sonos systems. I would suspect Apple.

Another strike against the idea is there is no current interface between Sonos and Siri. The Sonos engineers would likely need to build such, which could be a fairly substantial amount of work. Siri has been available for years now, there has been no indication that Sonos is interested in, or allowed to do so.

I have no insight on what legal terms Sonos is on with Apple, but when I worked with Disney and EA, there were hoops we needed to be aware of. I don’t recall them being onerous, but then we weren’t needing to deal with Siri, either.

Not unappreciated by folks like me, mind you, but I wouldn’t be holding my breath, either.

If HomeViewer includes a web browser and connects to the local network, I expect the SONOS system will be operable on day one.

@Kman1, The Sonos app is a Wi-Fi remote, not a media player. No sound would come out of the built-in HomePod. For that, you have to use AirPlay.

I see several hurdles for any sort of Sonos integration on this..

  • Is there a market for this?  Yes, it is likely to sell well because it’s Apple, but not every Apple product succeeds.  I would think Sonos would want to wait and see how the market reacts to this before deciding how to integrate, and how much effort to put into that integration.
  • What would Apple allow in an integration?  Sonos and Apple are competitors in many regards, so it’s entirely possible that Apple doesn’t want users running a Sonos system througth their device, at least not without using airplay and a UI they control.
  • Why is this needed?  It’s using carplay, right?  So a user could theoritically control their music streaming service directly and then play the audio on the HomeView device and (I assume) use airplay to other airplay speakers on their network, including Sonos.   Sure, you won’t have access to Sonos sources, but this product is for Apple loyalists, who are like just fine using Sonos as a ‘dumb’ airplay speaker only.  They may not even touch a deeper Sonos integration if it existed, which adds to the first bullet point.  Is there even a market for this?
