Hi,  my Beam Ultra is on the way,  I currently have the Beam gen 1,  along with surrounds and Sun Mini,  do I need to remove the surrounds/Sub or is it ok just to unplug my old Beam then add the Ultra to 'existing set up'. Don't really want to do a complete fresh set up

You really should ‘remove’ the surrounds and Sub from the original Beam, then reset them up with the Beam Ultra.

You can do it the other way, but there’s a ton of extra work, involving factory resetting them, which you want to avoid.

One more point…

Before removing your current Beam change the room name to something generic like “test”. Then remove the surrounds and sub. That will allow you to name the Beam Ultra with the same room name as was used with the Beam. Then in the app select add surrounds and sub.

The surrounds and sub will show as available in the app. If (like me) you have surrounds and subs in other rooms make sure not to select those that are already assigned.

I did it the way Bruce described. But in the meantime until Beam Ultra arrived I set up the surrounds as a stereo pair. If you do so, you first have to remove the stereo pair again before you can configure the speakers as surrounds.

What speakers do you have for surrounds? If they are Play 1s or Symfonisk Gen 1s, you will not be able to pair them with the Beam Ultra. The Beam Ultra and Arc Ultra only support newer speakers as surrounds:

Ciao,

I'll just do it when I get the Ultra,  less messing about the better,   thanks

I like to name the removed surrounds for the Room they were part of and add an R or L to reduce future possibilities of confusion.
