Feature Request - music library integration

I know I'm dreaming here... But!

Can we get a USB dongel, like the Line-In one, that provides a music library share via a plug-in mini SD Card?

It would meet so many user's requests.

Edit to make it more explicit, I am asking for a device to plug into tne Sonos USB port.

There are already a huge number of similar devices to plug into non-Sonos hardware.

Hi @bockersjv

To be clear, we are still talking about a feature request here, but my guess would be - if this were to be implemented - we would not set up a SMB server from a speaker in case access to it compromises music playback on that speaker - playback performance is always paramount!

Corry, the fact things like this are even considered shows the shift change at Sonos since the the Fateful Application update of May 2025.

The latest changes and Sonos 27 have given us features and changes that would previously been unthinkable.  So refreshing 😎

5% of a really big number is still a big number 😁

Agree, however the remaining 95% of the really big number is almost as big as a the really big number. 😀

Agree it may be a good idea for some of the 5% that still use local library. But, if there was a market and/or demand for this, why has no 3rd party and/or Sonos partner developed a standalone micro NAS that accepts SD cards and maybe branded as ‘Works with SONOS” already?

100%! (not 95%, or 5%)

😂

I can’t argue with that!

It may not be worth designing a new product for, but my original thinking was to just plug a USB drive into a USB-C port, maybe with the help of a USB-A to USB-C adaptor, if needed. No product design needed - just some coding.

As it stands, would it only be the Move 2 and possibly Eras (Eras at a push as they probably only output maybe upto 5W for the Line in adaptor) that could support this function?

Roams have no power out capability do they (ignoring even whether the pins are connected for data)?

Excellent points, @sjw, that I confess I had not thought of.

Move 2 does indeed supply power to external devices, but Era models (and Roams) do not. That might limit (to low-power flash drives only) or prevent these ideas entirely - except for Move 2.

I assumed Era models supplied a small amount as the Line in adaptor (ADC) would need some?

No product design needed - just some coding.

The code will use resources of the Sonos device, that will affect resources for playback “which is paramount”. Have you ever experienced an issue when inserting a USB/SD drive in a laptop/PC/Mac and the device (explorer/finder) slows/pauses/hangs when trying to mount/read the drive, those devices have many times more resource than a Sonos speaker. I would also assume that when the device is inserted it will have to be read and indexed, again taking valuable resource away from the speaker. External NAS is a safer option, IMO.
