Trouble Shooting Tip: Music Streaming Service
Quite often members complain that they can’t connect to a music streaming service via the Sonos app. Barring….
- Wi-Fi interference
- A problem with the music service server
- Compatibility issue between Sonos and the music service (think Apple Music 🤣)
I recently had issues with my alarm using Tidal music service which had been set for over a year. The music would start and stop. I was getting pop-ups saying my Network was the cause. Of course, our networks are never at fault…so it had to be a Sonos issue. That last sentence was written as sarcasm😂
Here are the steps I took to resolve my issue. Granted they may not work for everyone.
Verified that Sonos (app and system); as well as my device’s software were up to date.
- Everything was in the green
Tried accessing the Tidal music service directly.
- The music continued to start and stop
Checked the Wi-Fi signal strength on the speaker (Arc Ultra)
- It was listed as poor.
- Things are possibly pointing to my network
- FYI, Wi-Fi signal strength reporting levels are Excellent, Good and Poor
Rebooted the speaker
- Signal strength showed no improvement.
- FYI, a reboot is just pulling the power for 30 seconds.
- It is NOT a Factory Reset which should never be done unless instructed by Sonos Tech Support
Performed a simple Network refresh to my device by turning Airplane mode on/off
- No change
Rebooted my router
- Waited 30 seconds
- Problem resolved
- WiFi Signal Strength on the speaker is “Excellent”
- Tidal Music plays with no issue
You might ask why not just reboot my router in the beginning?
- Rebooting a router (IMO) should be the last step when there are other factors that can be checked.
- It takes all clients offline
- Worst case scenario it may revert some settings to factory default depending upon how much memory is installed.
- Although most routers today can survive a reboot with without any substantial consequences.
The gist of this post is that Network issues do occur. Even for those of us who for the most part enjoy constant network stability. I hope this helps to get you back to enjoying your Sonos in an expeditious manner.
