Hi,

This page lists Sonos products that support WPA3 security. Among the devices *not* in this list (I would personally like to know for a Sonos Play-1 but it'd be nice to have this information for all products) is it known which of them support:

  • WPA2-PSK-SHA256 (use of SHA-256 as the hashing method instead of SHA-1, the latter being cryptographically broken)
  • WPA3-SAE transition mode (WPA3-SAE but with the possibility to fallback on WPA2-PSK in case the client does not support the former protocol)

From experience it seems the Sonos Play-1 at least does not support WPA2-PSK-SHA256, but I'd like to be sure as, again, WPA-PSK without SHA256 is cryptographically insecure.

Thanks !

Hi @kant-aristote, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’ve asked our team for more information about this and what I can share publicly; they let me know that the Play:1 doesn’t support SHA256, so your experience is correct. I’ve also been told that pretty much anything since the Beam Gen 1 will support WPA2-PSK-SHA256.

While I was asking, they did say they were looking to make changes to the article you have linked, I’d assume to add more information like what you’re suggesting. I’d be happy to pass this along as feedback that you’d like that article to be more detailed.

I hope this information helps!
