Starlink & Sonos - Pairing Solution

After months of trying (and giving up) to set up my Sonos Play 5 (Gen 1) with Starlink - I finally have a (very straightforward) fix...

STEP 1 — Split your Starlink Wi-Fi into two networks

You’ll create:
    •    Starlink_2.4GHz → for Sonos
    •    Starlink_5GHz → for your phone, laptop, etc.

How to do it:
    1.    Open the Starlink App
    2.    Go to Wi-Fi Settings
    3.    Select Split 2.4 & 5 GHz Bands
    4.    Name them something like:
    •    Starlink-2G
    •    Starlink-5G
    5.    Save + Router will reboot

STEP 2 — Connect your phone/tablet temporarily to Starlink-2G

Sonos setup only works if your phone and the Sonos speaker are on the same band during setup.

So:
    1.    On your iPhone → Wi-Fi
    2.    Choose Starlink-2G

STEP 3 — Reset the Wi-Fi on your Play:5 Gen 1 (NOT a factory reset)

Do this:
    1.    Unplug your Play:5
    2.    Hold the Play/Pause button
    3.    Plug the speaker back in while holding the button
    4.    Release when the light starts flashing white

This clears the old Wi-Fi, nothing else

STEP 4 — Reconnect Sonos using the app
    1.    Open the Sonos S1 app (Gen 1 Play:5 requires S1)
    2.    Go to Settings → System → Add Product
    3.    Follow the steps
    4.    Choose Starlink-2G when it asks for Wi-Fi

It should now connect normally.

Hope this helps everyone!

Hello @User323563, welcome back!

I’m sorry to hear you were having trouble connecting your Sonos Play:5 (Gen 1) to your Starlink network configuration.

Allow me to add and correct some information in regard to your Step 3:

STEP 3 — Reset the Wi-Fi on your Play:5 Gen 1 (NOT a factory reset)

Do this:
    1.    Unplug your Play:5
    2.    Hold the Play/Pause button
    3.    Plug the speaker back in while holding the button
    4.    Release when the light starts flashing white

This clears the old Wi-Fi, nothing else

This is pretty much the Factory Reset process for the Sonos Play:5 (Gen 1), followed up by your Step 4 of Adding a product to your Sonos system.

  • If it’s the only product in your Sonos system, it will clear all the configuration you have (My Sonos - Music Services - Playlists) and will practically require you to set up a new Sonos system from scratch.
  • If it’s not the only product in your Sonos system, then it’s relatively safe to Factory Reset, although not recommended unless advised by a Sonos representative.

Thank you for sharing what worked for you and I hope this will help other users having the same issues while using Starlink and Sonos.
