Question

SONOS Will Not Find/List Files in For a Share In OneDrive

I have my music under OneDrive so it is backed-up and synchronized across computers.  I used to have the directory shared and played through the Sonos app (Windows 10 and Android) with no problems.  However, I went to Windows 11 and updated the Sonos applications to the latest versions.  Now, I can connect to the shared drive but no files are listed if the shared directory is under OneDrive.  If I do the exact same steps for a directory outside of OneDrive everything works fine (can see songs under subdirectories).

OneDrive is set so that all files are always local.  And Sonos does recognize and connect to the share (e.g., \\COMPUTERNAME\Music), but just does not list the files inside if the directory us under a Microsoft OneDrive directory.  Running Manage-->Update Music Library Now completes almost immediately (even though there are many subdirectories and songs telling me it’s not really finding anything) and nothing is listed in Sonos.

Please Advise.

As I recall, Sonos doesn’t work with OneDrive. It’s probably explained in one of the FAQs that Sonos has about NAS use and libraries , especially since OneDrive is neither an NAS or a local library, which probably means it isn’t accessible via SMTP, which Sonos’ Unix OS uses to access data.

I searched for a solution and certainly didn’t run into any Sonos FAQ.  If it is a known issue then it should be an easily found Sonos FAQ.

To be clear, I’m not trying to set OneDrive up as a steaming service.  I’m just sharing a folder on my local computer.  Indeed, Sonos recognizes the shared directory and then just doesn’t list the files.  I literally have two shared directories (one in OneDrive and one Outside).  If I copy files from the OneDrive directory into the other and update with Sonos the files are recognized and listed.

Therefore, my current solution is to have a duplicate directory that is mirrored with a batch file that I will run at least once a day (“robocopy "G:\OneDrive\Music" "C:\SonosMusic" /MIR /Z /W:5 /R:3 /LOG:"G:\OneDrive\Music\sync_log.txt" /NDL”) right before I have Sonos scheduled to update its contents.  This is fine I guess, but I burned half a day trying to get this to work, figuring out what was wrong, and finding a kludge work-around.

I feel like the issue is on Sonos’ side and probably can be addressed.

I don’t know if you followed this, but here’s Sonos’ support article on setting up a SMB share for your Music Library:

Share your Windows music folder with Sonos

Add your music library to Sonos

Yes, thanks, I read all the articles.  Have everything enabled (more than I should).  I know how it works, and have it working simultaneously with a parallel directory.  Only difference in the one not working appears to be that it is under OneDrive.

There have been a number of posts here about not being able to get a OneDrive folder to work as a music library. Every solution I’ve seen mentions just coping and using a regular folder. I guess there is something in the permissions Microsoft forces on the OneDrive folder that make it not work. I’m not a windows user, so I have no first hand experience with this. Just going by what I’ve read here.
