You wonder why the good guys aren't scanning for the bad gear and getting it blocked by the ISP or replaced by the user.

My old ISP had a "walled garden" set up and if they noted security issues they switched your connection from the Internet to the garden until you fixed the issue and asked to be released.

I think this is true for any ‘outdated’ software. Like SMB v1 for instance. Just with slightly varying degrees of exposure.

On second thought, strike ‘slightly’ from that sentence.
