When will Spanish be available for Sonos Voice Control (SVC)?

Hi!
After reading different posts, I’m trying to use SVC to forget the app missing features, like the phone-locked controls. Thanks to @nik9669a for his suggestion and details, because I thought SVC also sent my conversations to the cloud and it seems it doesn’t.

During my first hours trying, I’ve to say that it understands my Spanish-accent English good enough for simple commands. I can turn on the TV and rise the volume, but for me is not natural, as English is not my mother tongue. Also, he (Esposito) never understands the names of my playlists, because they are in Spanish and plays whatever crosses his electronic mind. I’m discovering interesting and very unknown music, by the way 😅, but it is not the topic.

So, I kindly ask Sonos to include Spanish as a new language to speak with SVC. To support that request I’ve to say that Spanish is the second language spoken on Earth (native language) after Mndarin Chinese. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers

I can understand that the first choice was English, as many people speaks it as first or second language, but instead the lovely French of my northern neighbours, why didn’t you try Spanish 😬?

Anyway, please try now, because I’m going to drive Esposito crazy together with me.

To moderators: I’ve found a similar thread, but it’s locked. Please, feel free to merge both if you want.

SVC is also available in a lot of European countries, including Germany and Austria -- in English & French.

Yea, I thought it odd, but I didn’t see anything on the website (don’t see SVC on the German or Austria language Sonos website), and Google’s Geminis stated it was only available in US and France.

The information is translated in German, and I’m pretty sure German can use it (if they speak English or French)

It took some time for Mr. Esposito to get used to my thick accent, but now we are best friends. 😃

So this is what I find odd.  In the US, under the learn menu, they link to voice control.

On the German site, they do not.

Yes,  I understand that’s not definitive about what is and isn’t supported.  Just...odd.

Hi @Triticale

Thank you - I've marked this thread as a feature request, and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

+1 for more love for Sonos Voice. We need an alternative to Big Tech Voice Assistants.

I would of course welcome other languages (German would be great for me, but I can also see the argument for Spanish). SVC has the potential to replace everything I require (smart home + music), but no love seems to be put into it.

It also has been more than half a decade since SONOS acquired Snips, and basically we can “only” control music and didn’t really get anything added since SVCs inception (well except for Spotify support maybe).

Heck - you could even partner up with the French colleagues at Mistral and integrate LLM support as an option. Or perhaps give us an SDK to connect smart home skills …

Or of course - add more languages …

Or just open source the stuff again so that we can all work on it. You showed that music control with local processing can work pretty well. But you stopped there ...
