Synology NAS music library folder - only works with admin account

Hello. I’ve scoured this forum for hours trying to find an answer with no luck so far, so here goes with my post looking for help please from all you clever people…

I’ve tried lots of different SMB settings etc, but in the end regardless of those settings it simply comes down to if I add my Synology NAS shared music folder path using a Synology administrator account all my NAS music shows and it works fine.  If I repeat adding the same folder with read only (or read/write) standard user account credentials (what I want to do to tighten security), it tries to add (I can see the SMB3 connection request in the Synology log centre) but quickly throws a “can’t find path\folder anymore it might have moved…” box.

Any ideas to configure the standard user account? - I know this starts to blur across to a Synology topic otherwise and the admin account might be bypassing something or has a deeper permission allowing it to work??

I’m running S2 on my 8 speakers, the newest being an Arc.  Everything else works fine and always has done for 15 years.

Many thanks in advance,

Mark.

The spin-up time on a NAS can be an issue, mine (a while back) was slow with a "green" drive and caused issues. Now using an SSD as music storage so no spin-up delay.

You might try spinning up the  NAS drives before accessing with Sonos to see if that chqnges things.

You could be on to something. In Synology “Hardware and Power” settings, I have “Drive Hibernation” tab, Time: set to “none”. I don’t think that was the default. I have everything on that tab turned off/disabled.

So Windows deals perfectly with accessing files using the exact same credentials that Sonos doesn't like.

Try reserving the NAS IP address on the router (if not already done) and use that instead of the NAS name.

The NAS hibernation can be a thing….. but wouldn't be resolved by using an account with Admin privileges.

Did you check the permissions on the files? You mention dragging files using the Synology Web interface…. but how have you logged into that? If as Admin account then those files could well be inheriting those permissions. You can allow the Sonos account to log into DSM.

Also, if you add files to the Share, does the mapped drive show them (a bit like a Sonos re-index)?
