GetZoneInfo - HTAudioIn codes
I've been talking to my Playbar with UPnP. The GetZoneInfo command appears to be the command used by "About My Sonos System" and returns some familiar data, e.g.
<u:GetZoneInfoResponse xmlns:u="urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:DeviceProperties:1"> <SerialNumber>5C-AA-FD-xx-xx-xx:F</SerialNumber> <SoftwareVersion>33.15-32291</SoftwareVersion> <DisplaySoftwareVersion>6.4</DisplaySoftwareVersion> <HardwareVersion>18.104.22.168-2</HardwareVersion> <IPAddress>10.0.x.x</IPAddress> <MACAddress>5C:AA:FD:xx:xx:xx</MACAddress> <CopyrightInfo>.. 2004-2015 Sonos, Inc. All Rights Reserved.</CopyrightInfo> <ExtraInfo>OTP: </ExtraInfo> <HTAudioIn>2</HTAudioIn> </u:GetZoneInfoResponse>
I'm curious about the values for HTAudioIn. It seems to represent the SPDIF port state. So far I've got: 2: St
Play current queue automatically
Hardly advanced but cannot see any means to do this automatically. I want to play from an existing queue, at a set time each day for an hour. The alarm would be the obvious tool but it does not allow playing from the existing queue. It has to be the existing queue as I want to continue playing from a very large playlist that is set on repeat and want to continue where it stopped on the previous day. Any bright ideas?
Notifications: How to detect volume changes from other client
How to receive a notification (or whatever) when the volume is changed by any client on the network. I am ok in opening a socket, which seems to be the way it travels over the network but I don't know what the frame will look like. I can control many functions of my Sonos using the POST apis. That is one thing that I can't figure out. Any help on the matter is much appreciated! thx
Compression setting on component - not global
Hello, I would like to raise a discussion about the advanced setting "Audio Compression", which is a global setting. Meaning, that if you change this setting, it is applied to all your line-in components. I have a connect-component that has a Vinyl-player attached to it. I have a play 5 that has a computer attached as line-in. I'm having enormous problems with my vinyl player/Connect component. I've had several calls with sonos and it does not get solved. For now, the only solution is to go "compressed", but I have a problem with that. This implies that if I look at a movie on my pc, and use the line-in on the Play 5, I'm out of sync with sound / picture. So I'll have to re-change the setting to "automatic" and when playing vinyl again to "compressed"... and so on and so on Sonos is way to expensive for this. It's already sad that I have the problem with the connect component, it's not user friendly to keep me switching my settings So, I really need a non-global settin
double DAC conversion while using 'analog in' and 'analog out' in Connect
Hello everyone. I wonder if Sonos Connect does the DAC conversion of analog signal, that comes in to the device, and then do the conversion again while sending it to 'analog out'? I think it does and I look for a possibility to use Connect as a preaplifier but without double conversion? I need to plug in hi-end CD (with better DAC then Sonos) to power aplifier and would like to use Sonos as a preaplifier but without loosing quality. It is possible? Pawel
networking woes - line in breaks up badly
Good evening friends, I'm back at it... trying to fix my set up. It's never quite worked right, but, as you'll see, there are so many variables that I don't often get the time to sit down, diagram it and try and troubleshoot it. Here's the TLDR: when I use line in (Apple Airport Express for Air Play, or Amazon Dot) the audio breaks up instantly, and then it totally quits within 3 minutes. Other symptoms: the Bathroom Play:1 barely works - streaming audio is choppy, controller frequently can't 'find' it longer version: My network should be up to the challenge. I've got cat6e everywhere and all GigE switches. And yet, devices plugged into switches seem to prefer wireless over wired routes. I've got STP (vs RSTP) enabled on all my managed switches. I'm attaching a network topology diagram to this post. Here's where things get interesting. I have 3 VLANS: 1, 2, 3 1: primary LAN 2: IOT (internet of things .. can access internet but not LAN subnet) 3: Guest (ca
Enterprise network issues
Hello, I work for an IT company that is having some issues with some of your devices. We currently have 4 so so play one's and two of the play 3's. For some reason on wired or wireless they devices are always dropping connection and we need to start the setup process over. Whenever 3 or more of the devices are playing there always seems to be buffering and or lag (the rest of the network seems to be fine). All of the devices are on the same vlan. We were going to buy some of those boost devices but not sure if that will help.
TV surround sound, Turntable surround sound.
Hi, is it possible to have the tv sound to come out of all my Sonos Play 1's/Sub when watching TV? And with the same setup, have a turntable connected to the Play1's/Sub when listen to music. I wouldn't be listening to the turntable and tv at the sametime, but might listen to the turntable and just want video from the TV. Is this possible with any combination of speakers? The turntable has a built in amp.
Hooking up a chromecast to a Play:1 (Play:3) without line-in
I got tired of waiting for Sonos to get around to release some kind of cast support (they have good reasons not to too). Before I began this was my wish list:

Cast from android/iphone using chromecast,
it should start automatically when I cast,
have acceptable sound quality (I tried bluetooth with a similar setup but it sounded awful) and
be relatively cheap.
So, to the hardware:

chromecast audio (I would recommend getting a normal chromecast and extract the audio - the one I got has some limitations),
raspberry pi as transcoder (record output from chromecast and transform it into a mp3-stream that the sonos can handle)
(and a USB sound card because the raspberry has no line-in (got a behringer UCA202 which is supported)
Here is an image of the mess! :) After installing the standard raspbian (and running the raspi-config + apt update/upgrade) I proceeded to install pulseau
1 speaker, multiple rooms
Hi.. It seems to move a speaker from room to room, it is a few buttons / change of room setups..etc Wondering if anyone knows if Sonos is planning to (or has work arounds) for having 1 speaker in multiple rooms. I get that if i'm trying to play different music in different rooms, a choice will have to be made for said speaker.. or maybe the option to play different music in those rooms is disabled.. But here is my scenario: I have a play bar, and two play speakers. They are set up with my tv as the bar and surround stereo speakers. Great. Now since the play speakers are kinda small, and somewhat portable, I planned to have one of them easily unplugable, so we can bring it to another room when we want, and play music in that other room (without playing on all the rest of the speakers). I'd like to do this easily.. not have to break up the home theater set up.. add it to another room.. then have to redo everything when i bring the speaker back. Seems like i should be able to throw
Using Sonos without Wifi
I have my sonos currently setup on my wireless internet network and it's working fine but the signal drops when too many devices connect to the internet. I am thinking of connecting the sonos systems to a router that doesn't have any internet connection running but will be able to create a network for sonos exclusively. I am wondering if this will be possible if that router does not have any internet connection? Please note: I am aware of Sonos Boost and what it can do to solve my problem but what I am trying to achieve is a dedicated sonos wireless network running with the help of a router without internet connection.
Simplified HTTP API (node.js)
Hi, I'm starting a new thread regarding this (old one here https://en.community.sonos.com/advanced-setups-229000/sonos-with-nodejs-my-attempt-33834) since that one grew out of hand. I have made some major improvements to the simple HTTP API that I've built, and it now also comes with a pre-composed raspberry pi image that runs from a RAM-drive (based on AlpineLinux) for even simpler installation. This software is useful for simple integration with home automation in mind, or for small hobby projects. For more information, see http://jishi.github.io/node-sonos-http-api/ File issues at github https://github.com/jishi/node-sonos-http-api/issues Have fun!
use wifi range extender with sonos?
We often have trouble with wifi connectivity in our kitchen, and we purchased a range extender (amped AC1200) to improve performance. So far, it seems to help quite a bit when surfing the web in the kitchen. We have also experienced occasional problems with playing through the sonos system in the kitchen, and nearly always when trying to listen to sonos on the back porch, just outside the kitchen. Can we also use this device to communicate between the sonos bridge and a speaker? (I am assuming this is not possible, because the device creates a second network, which the sonos speaker would not recognize.) If not, is there another solution for improving connectivity between the bridge and a speaker? Thank you. EDIT: Having read a related thread that came up after posting this, I see that the appropriate sonos product for this problem is a BOOST. I would still like to use the amped range extender with our sonos system if this is possible. Thank you for any advice you can provide.
Yonomi and Amazon Alexa
If you have an Amazon Echo you can now control your Sonos device. Download the Yonomi app, connect to Sonos. Open up the Alexa app, connect yonomi in the smart home skills. Hit find devices and Sonos shows up. I added my Sonos individually in the groups section for easier voice control to recognize the device. With yonomi you can add routines to automate things with Sonos. Finally Home automation!
Will Sonos work with Luma wifi?
Luma wifi is about to be released and looks like a great product. Can Sonos and Luma both create mesh networks that work together or will there be interference? I assume they will work, right?! A wifi mesh will be on a different frequency than the Sonos mesh, right? Luma looks like the solution many of us could use if it works as effectively as Sonos does with its own mesh. Opinions? Mesh.
Network Loop and broadcast storms with Sonos
I was at a Sonos Training event today and was told if I connected multiple Sonos Connect Amps located in a closet or rack to an unmanaged switch via Ethernet cable I was fine as long as I didn't daisy chain the cat5 cable from Connect Amp to Connect Amp but connected a single cable 5 cable from each connect amp to the switch. The sonos trainer said daisy chaining would cause a loop and broadcast storms. Then an hour later I sat through another vendor training that warned if you connected two connect amps to a switch with single cat5 each they would cause a network loop because they would still communicate through the wireless mesh cause network loop creating broadcast storms. I also forgot to ask what if I had 4 Sonos Connect amps connected via single cat5 each to unmanaged switch, 1 boost connect to switch, 2 playbars connected via cat5, 2 paired Play1 connected wirelessly, and 1 Sub paired with Playbar connected to network by Cat5 cable to switch. Have I created a problem?
One house, one WiFi network - can you have 2 seperate Sonos networks running?
I have a very large house with in-laws living in a separate annexe. We have one WiFi network covering the whole house and annexe. I have a reliable Sonos networking running in the main house with all my devices connected. I tried setting up a separate Sonos networking using a bridge in the annexe side which has 2 x Play:5 in there. It works for a while, but the next day when you try to connect to the annexe system again it can't find it and instead fines my system in the main house. Can you run 2 separate Sonos networks in one house so that in my side I can only see and use my devices and in the other side you can only see those? Thanks for your help!
Harmony & Sonos - Clear the queue?
Hey guys, I am getting the majority of setup on my new automated home finished. Right now I am stuck on "moods" for listening on my Sonos. Example: In my livingroom/office, I set up three "moods" 1.) Morning chill 2.) Office background music 3.) End of day Rock playlist Currently, when I select any other these playlists in Harmony (each playlist is listed in my Sonos Favorites and then shown in the harmony remote), SONOS takes all the songs in the playlist and adds to the current queue. This happens both when starting a new "listen to sonos" with a selected channel as well as when using the remote to select a new playlist once the the activity is started. This obviously doesn't work well, considering I am trying to change the mood of the room permanently with each selection, not mix the playlists together. Has anyone figured a way to have Harmony replace queue, instead of add to queue? Alternatively, is there a way to have Sonos default to replace queue, instead
iPhone Intermittently Drops Controller Connection, MacBook Does Not Drop Connection on Google Fiber
I love my Sonos PLAY:3 players! I have Google Fiber and noticed my iPhone controller randomly connected and disconnected to Sonos throughout a day. All the while, my MacBook Pro had no trouble connecting to the system. After trying a number of things such as setting the channels, I decided to try setting up my Google Router to have a separate SSID for 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. I renamed the main SSID to denote "slow" and then named the 5.0GHz after my original SSID. I restarted my router just to be safe. After separating the two bandwidths, I connected one of my speakers to the router and used the MacBook controller to assign the speakers to the 2.4Ghz SSID. My iPhone and MacBook connected right to the 5.0GHz SSID without a change. My Apple and Sonos family are now speaking together. In fact, they are making sweet music together! Peace and Music On!

FLAC error - Unsupported sample rate
I'm trying to play some FLAC files on my SONOS system and I get the error message: "unable to play ..... it is encoded at unsupported sample rate 9600 hz" I've never seen this error message before. Does this mean the end of the road or is there a work around? Could I re-digitize them at a different sample rate because my other FLAC files play fine. Maybe SONOS has plans to change their specs or is it the old debate about whether the human ear can appreciate the difference in quality or not? Any help would be appreciated as I'm new to this game.
Connect:Amp and sharing home theater speakers with impedance matching volume controls in other rooms
Hi, I'm new to Sonos and to audio setups in general, but I've been reading a lot of posts on here the last few days (thanks Buzz for everything you write here!), and have pieced together an outline of a plan, but I have some missing pieces and wanted to confirm the pieces I *think* I've settled on. Here's my situation: ----- I moved into a 'pre-wired' house and am determining how I want to set up. ----- I have a spot at the home theater room that has: ---------- 5 wires (2 strand) for the 5 in-ceiling speakers that make up the home theater grouping ---------- 3 wires (4 strand) that head out to volume control boxes in other rooms (let's assume they are impedance matching VC boxes, but I still have to check and confirm) --------------- These other rooms have their respective VC boxes and 2 speakers, 2 speakers, and 1 speaker (bathroom). What I want to do: ----- Get a receiver that can run the home theater 5 speakers when I'm watching TV. ----- Get a Connect:Amp to run the 3 other roo
