Sonos and Wifi 6
My Wifi Box can issue Wifi signals in Wifi 6 norm. Can the Sonos signal use the Wifi 6 norm? If not, are there plans to upgrade the speakers and system to work with this new norm? If you plan on doing this, will it work with an online upgrade or will only new products able to operate with Wifi 6? What is the timeline for this? The advantage of Wifi 6 is that it accepts many systems at the same time and has a much longer operating range… Practical in a house...
FLAC error - Unsupported sample rate
I'm trying to play some FLAC files on my SONOS system and I get the error message: "unable to play ..... it is encoded at unsupported sample rate 9600 hz" I've never seen this error message before. Does this mean the end of the road or is there a work around? Could I re-digitize them at a different sample rate because my other FLAC files play fine. Maybe SONOS has plans to change their specs or is it the old debate about whether the human ear can appreciate the difference in quality or not? Any help would be appreciated as I'm new to this game.
Sonos ARC Demo/Test Pattern
I’ve done a fair amount of research on this with no luck. I am looking for a DD+ or Dolby TrueHD test pattern that I can run through my ARC/Sub/ONE SL’s home theatre setup so I can review and possibly tweak some of the directional and volume levels of my setup. The TruePlay setup works fine but I would like to have more control over my environment. For instance, I would love to be able to send a white noise signal to just the Atmos speakers in the ARC so that I can determine the sweet spot for my room configuration. Another use would be to send a 20-40hz signal just to the Sub so that I can move it around and determine the best location. These features are available on dedicated A/V receivers but unfortunately not through the Sonos environment.Either way, if someone could help me in finding an audio test track that can send signals to each speaker that would be fantastic. Even better, maybe Sonos could look into providing a canned test pattern as part of their app so that a client can p
BOOST Mode - Can you connect more then one wired Sonos device?
I started working for a home theater / home automation installation company a few months ago and we install a lot of Sonos. Sonos is a pretty solid product but, we still run into some strange network issues every once in a while. I was originally told that Sonos creates it's own wireless mesh that it uses to communicate from device to device. Now my background is in networking and I am from the school of thought that anytime you can hard wire a device instead of using WiFi you do it, to reserve the limited airspace for your mobile devices, that are not practical to have hard wired. The standard practice when setting up these sonos systems has been to usually have all of the Sonos Connects and or Connect Amps all centrally located in a network rack and distribute speaker wire to each room, usually using a set of in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. Now having several Sonos all wired to the network as well as creating their own wireless network is concerning due to the potential for a swi
Philips Hue HDMI Sync Box & Sonos Beam 5.1
Hi I just got a Philips Sync Box for my tv. I am having a hard time figuring out the best way to set up all my devices most efficiently. I just ordered updated HDMIs as well Devices:Sharp 55" Class - 4K UHD TV with HDR Roku TV LC-55LBU591U Verizon Stream TV (4K UHD) Sonos Beam (with 2 Sonos One Gen 2, Gen 3 Sub, 5.1) Philips Hue Sync Box (w/ Hub, lights, etc) Sonos Port (for vinyl player) (dont think its relevant)I would like to plug everything into the Sync Box and connect that to the TV though HDMI/ARC. So i can sync music from Sonos and still have TV surround sound. Right now i have the Stream TV plugged into Hue, and Hue plugged into the TV. Then Beam into TV with HDMI Arc. Also this might be a Hue question but any advice for the “Enable ARC Bypass” and Dolby Vision Enhancec compatibility” settings would be much appreciated!Thank you!!
Apple TV 4K + LG OLED55C7P + Playbar/etc. + Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI Cables
So I recently invested in the LG OLED55C7P, which is gorgeous. I can now run my individual HDMI sources (Cable, Apple TV 4K, Xbox One X) to the TV, and audio out through optical to the playbar and beyond. All was good for video and sound - 5.1 for each source, and I didn't need a splitter (I used the Octava before, with my old TV). In reading about Dolby Vision, etc., I saw that Apple recommended the Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. I saw conflicting opinions, but I wanted to use the best that I could, so I bought the cable and stuck it between the Apple TV and the TV. Boom - I started getting the 'Unsupported Audio' error in Sonos. I recycled power for everything, tweaked the TV audio output settings, tweaked the Apple TV audio output settings, and no luck. So, I swapped the good old HDMI cable back in, and life is fine. So my question is - does anyone have perspective on why this cable, which I'd assume would be backward compatible, would have issues? The TV (2017 mod
Does Port adjust the sync lag for AV receivers?
Just received the email about the new product offering, including the new port. Currently, I have a Connect attached to my Yamaha home theater with Play:1 speakers in adjacent rooms/areas. I cannot get through the 70ms lag produced by the AV receiver’s signal processor when streaming with any other device. Using analog input has reduced the lag, but it’s still annoying. Dies Port address the timing differences for 3rd party devices? If so, HOW?
Why doesn't SonosNet appear on wi-fi detectors
I've used InSSIder to look at wireless signals near me and it only detects a SonosNet signal if the Sonos controller (CR100) is on. When the controller goes to sleep the SonosNet signal disappears off InSSIDer despite music still being played. Why doesn't InSSIDer pick up the SonosNet signal ? Is there another wifi detector that would see it ? Would something like Wi-Spy see it ?
Please make Sonos work with the computer
So many of us want to use our Sonos system alongside all our media, not just streaming music. I have understood with research that there is a lag/delay with the sound when pictures too. This could be fixed with a plug-in for a browser or OS, which has calibrated the audio lag, so that we can watch Netflix or any other non streaming audio media. I am tempted to return the 2 Play:3's I bought because of this, and I'm sure I am not alone in this frustration. Having spoken to a Sonos Expert on the chat menu, she told me that this "might" be addressed in the future, and that the best thing to do is to leave a message on here. If this were to be solved, I as well as others would likely buy additional Sonos products. I honestly love the Play 3 as a product, makes great sound and great/simple interface, having had an Airport Extreme which had at least a headphone jack for streaming over 10 years ago, I'm surprised that it hasn't been part of the Sonos design.
Stream audio from Android TV to Sonos One SL
Hi, I’ve become a happy owner of my first Sonos One SL speaker, really enjoying the beautiful sound that it capable to give. And it would be great to use it as a speaker for my android tv box (MIBOX 3).I also have google nest mini, which one i could connect thought bluetooth and it works amazing, but the idea was to stream sound to Sonos speaker. I was trying to set Sonos as default speaker (through google home app) but it was reproducing on Nest mini. Does anybody has an idea how to stream sound (i used to watch movies on MX player on MIBOX) to Sonos One?
Sonos amp and 4.1 surround
Hello! I currently have a 5.1 setup with Playbar, 2x Sonos One and the subwoofer. I also have 2x Sonos One in the dining room, and another Sonos One in the bathroom. In regards to the 5.1 setup I am quite pleased with the audio performance for movies, considering the quite low price and the small size. However, when it comes to music listening experience in the living room, I find the Playbar lacking a lot. It just doesn’t do very well at normal stereo music listening. So with that said, I was looking into replacing my Playbar with a Sonos Amp and 2 front speakers of my own choice. I have heard the Sonos Amp in a 2.1 setup, and it sounds amazing. At my retailer, I learn that the Sonos Amp does not support running 4.1 as a front amplifier with 2x Sonos One as back speakers. This totally confused me. Why on earth would Sonos not give the Sonos Amp the same software capabilities as the Playbar, Playbase and Beam? It is just a matter of down mixing the center channel into the left and ri
What happens if I string an Ethernet cable between my stereo-paired PLAY:1s?
I have a pair of PLAY:1s in a stereo pair. Both connect to SonosNet via a BOOST. What happens if I directly connect the two speakers with an Ethernet cable? Will one of the speakers receive its communication over the wire, while the other talks to the BOOST wirelessly? Just curious, not trying to solve any problem I'm experiencing.
How to Use Sonos with NordVPN
I can use Sonos on Mac and Windows running NordVPN, yet on Android phone I get error from Sonos - "You are connected to a vpn which may interfere with connecting to Sonos." Sonos then directs me to NordVPN settings which only gives two setting options - (1) Always-on VPN (which I am not going to change to just use Sonos), and (2) Block connections without VPN (which I have tried in both on and off modes - neither work). Any ideas as to how to get Sonos to work?
Two Sonos Systems on One Network
I've been out of the picture for a bit and sudenly find myself struggling to achieve something that I previously had no difficulty with: 2 sonos setups on one network, with no funny stuff like separate subnets. This used to be really easy and I used it to get past the 65k track limit; now, I want to keep my 5 year old out of the main system! But now, whenever I turn system 1 back on again, the android controller on which I set up system 2 loses contact with system2 (and system 1 for that matter). Has something changed? Admittedly, previously I was using a CR100 (but I promise this isn't the focus of this question; for me at least, that ship has, with more than a couple of sniffles, sailed).
Vantage Controls drivers for Sonos?
Hi Everyone, New to the forum, but not to Sonos. As a Dealer, I'm just beating the bushes to be able to control the Sonos equip. with High end Automation gear like Vantage Controls makes. Anyone written or seen this available? Thanks in advance for the help!! Aster
Sonos, Cisco, STP, MST, and Spanning Trees
Hi all, I'm wrestling with an STP issue on some Cisco switches and I'm hoping for some advice. I have two cascaded switches, and I've configured STP (actually, MST, since that seems to work with the Sonos devices). When I only have players wired to the core switch, things work as expected. However, when I connect a player to the cascaded switch, that player completely loses its connection to the network. I cannot ping it. In both cases, STP looks fine. I can also see the MAC address of the player on the correct port on the cascaded switch. Does anyone have any ideas? Detailed config: ----------------------- --- Main switch --- ! Stop Sonos phoning home
I think I have all the stops to prevent Sonos from phoning home. Here's what I have configured on my wireless router: - Block all internet access from Play:*, Connect & Amp - Block all traffic from my music server PC to 220.127.116.11 (sonos.com) What am I missing? (oops: looks like Pandora may go through sonos.com - is that correct?)
Detailed network information available ?
Hi, I have been running a Sonos 5 for a few years now and it works mostly good. But sometimes, the app does not find the Play5 speaker and it mostly happens at parties when it's most "critical" that it works. I have been searching for a detailed description on the networking that Sonos is using, but haven't been able to find it. I'm a network and security engineer and have been working with networks for 25 years. At work, I do enterprise networking, security and routing/firewalling/load balancing. I would like to understand what network topology Sonos is using for the system to be able to debug the system when it doesn't work for me. Is it available ?
