Control all grouped Sonos using TV remote control (via Playbar)
I already own a Playbar and recently purchased a Play 1. One thing I find invaluable is being able to control the Playbar using the TV remote, even if playing music. It is very intuitive and easy to use. What I've noticed however is that now when grouped with the play 1 the TV remote volume control only manages the Playbar vs. the whole group volume. Is there a way to add an option to have the TV remote control either only the Playbar or the whole group volume once grouped? Would help to extend the handy and intuitive control the bring the volume up and down across the rooms.
5.2 surround for huge room
I am an installer for a Sonos retailer, we've sold a customer a play bar 5.1 package with the sub and two play 1s, however the room is huge and the sub can only be placed on either end of the seating area, so it ends up sounding unbalanced. The customer would like to add another Sonos sub to the system to balance out the bass with a sub on both ends. Normally this is easy in a typical surround scenario, but after agreeing with the customer, I did a quick google and seem to have discovered that 5.2 surround is not supported! Are you guys crazy??? This is like saying "no" to an effortless SUB sale, AND making this customer rethink his decision to go with Sonos for surround. He also has a Sonos connect, with a big amplifier and zone volume controller connected to speakers throughout the house, but the connect (non-amp) did not pair with the sub (I tried this before setting up the play bar) so the only solution I could come up with was to have a wireless sub kit and non-Sonos (KEF is
Setting up a Sonos 5.1 system with Samsung UN65JS8500 SUHD 4K TV's and multiple devices
As part of moving to a new house I just upgraded all our televisions to Samsung UN65JS8500 SUHD 4K TV's. Unlike our old house, however, our new home isn't pre-wired for 5.1 and 7.1. I am an avid SONOS fan and have quite a few SONOS devices and decided to move to using it exclusively for surround on the TV's (to avoid sheetrock work!) . However I am looking for advice on setting up the system because many of the TV's will have an Xbox One, PS4, DIRECTV, and possibly and Apple TV. I was thinking possibly an optical only switch as a possible solution but liked the HDMI switch option (if it supports a Logitech Harmony universal remote). However I don't know of an HDMI switch that support HDMI 2.0a and allows for the 4k or HDR pass through. Thoughts? Any ideas on a setup?
Sharp Aquos Playbar compatibility / troubleshoot
I have a Sharp Aquos LC-40D68UT (purchased in 2011). It has a digital audio port, and seems to plug in fine to my Playbar; however, during Playbar setup, the Playbar does not detect anything coming from the TV. Wondering if the TV is simply not compatible (it's not listed in the non-compatible list thread; and speaking to Sharp customer service they weren't able to say definitively). Or wondering if there is some other common troubleshoot (which I haven't found in the manual or FAQ). Thanks
where to place soundbar when upside down seems to be the only option
I have a TV on the wall with a fireplace below it and a soffit above it. There really isn't room to mount it on the wall above or below without having the speakers fire directly into the wall or floor (see image below). So I wanted to hang the playbar upside down under the soffit as seen in the image. This actually points the speakers right at the listening area and seems to be the best option. But, it seems that the R/L channels might be incorrect if this is done? Is that still the case? Will SONOS add an over write feature to hard code what is right and left to the PB? Is there any other options here? For other people that have ceiling mounted the PB, did you use the standard wall mount or did you do something different to make sure it was secure? Thanks for the help!
How to get a volume indicator with playbar?
I have the playbar connected to a new uhd Samsung television. Everything seems to work fine except there is no indication of the volume level anywhere. I'm using optical to connect the playbar to the Samsung TV. Is there any way to get the volume level to show somewhere? It's really annoying not seeing a number or indicator change as the volume changes. Thanks for any help/insight
Samsung TV won't pass through 5.1 on optical out if input is HDMI, need suggestions
I have a Playbar, and a Samsung TV that won't pass through 5.1 from its optical out if the input is HDMI. Our Motorola cable box is connected to our TV using HDMI, and I want to get the 5.1 when I watch TV. I've looked through the questions and answers posted here and elsewhere, and it seems like some people have used an HDMI switch from Monoprice with an optical out to get around this problem. The suggestion is to connect the HDMI source to the HDMI switch, and the HDMI switch sends out the full 5.1 audio through the optical out and into the Playbar. (I'll call this the "HDMI switch" approach.) The other approach is to connect the cable box's optical out directly to the Playbar. (I'll call this the "cable box direct" approach.) This works, but I don't like this approach because we leave our cable box on at all times, and when we turn off the TV, the Playbar still plays audio from the cable box, as the Playbar has no idea that the TV's been turned off.
how to: bond rooms
I have read that a "permanent group" can be achieved through "Bonding" a group. The article below instructs on what bonding is, but offers no clues on how to achieve. I cannot find a simple explanation for how to turn on bonding, only posts regarding problems with already bonded devices. Playbar TV audio stops occasionally after I change the cable channel. Works again if I turn TV off and back on.
Hello, My setup:

Vizio E500i-A1 HD TV
Armstrong Cable PACE RNG200N DVR HD box
Playbar, version 5.2
(No Connect or Sub. Just two Play:1's in other rooms)
My TV audio is turned off and the Playbar correctly starts up when I turn my TV on and plays audio fine. It also functions correctly as a music player when the TV is off. My problem: Occasionally, when changing cable channels, the audio will cut out (when the new channel comes on, it is without sound). The problem is rectified when I turn off the TV and turn it on again. It will then be fine until I change the channel again, when the problem may occur again. I have not been able to notice any pattern - sometimes this happens, sometimes it does not. Thanks for your help.
Spotify doesn't work on sonos
I'm in China, use spotify daily with their app and I never had any problem, it works perfectly. Sonos officially support Spotify, but seem the in China it's a big problem. I finally been able to set-up my spotify account on sonos after about 3 hours of pain, through the poorly designed android and windows app. Now I got it working, but the songs would only play for 30-60 seconds before the connection is lost because it says the internet connection is too slow. I'm streaming Spotify with their own app and HD Netflix movie through my home connection and never had any problem, why the hell sonos is not able to stream a damn song ? Why the hell i cannot directly play my spotify library stored on my phone to sonos since their streaming is so bad ? I believe both these company focus first on how to make max money and have long forgotten about their costumers needs as they seem to never have talked or agreed to have some sort of common library... we are in 2015, not 1995 ! This is deepl
Playbar with new Connect (DTS solution)
I have the same problem like many others here that Sonos offers the perfect speaker solution for my home theater setup, but I would like the option to have DTS, or possibly Dolby TrueHD / DTS:Neo... Maybe even create a 7.1 setup or have the possibility to add Dolby Atmos or Auro3D in the future with a simple software update and the additional speakers... But we all know the problem is the optical connection, why not create a Connect2 or a PlayHub (call it whatever), that has one or more HDMI input(s) and one HDMI output, that can use the DTS track (or other HD audio-tracks) and sent it via the network connection to the playbar and surround speakers. This way you could bypass the optical connection which is a bottleneck at the moment (bandwidth wise). This way customers who want more out of their PlayBar hometheater setup, can buy this new Connect or PlayHub and get everything they need! Everybody else just use the Playbar the way its originally intended to...
Blu-Ray DTS to DD. List Blu-Rays players which can do this
Can we get a list of Blu-Ray players which convert DTS to DD through HDMI. Using the Xbox one at the moment but want a proper player. Samsung players do this but is it through HDMI? and are the models mentioned on sonos support from 2013? Let's get an upto date list for now n in the future.
Tivo & Sonos Playbar & Samsung TV w/o ability to turn off internal speakers
My Samsung LED 60in TV does not support external speakers and therefore does not have the menu option to turn off the internal speakers. I have confirmed with Samsung support that I can't flash the firmware or do anything to get them disabled. I have the Sonos playbar connected via ethernet cable to router and I have the playbar going optically to the Tivo Roamio because my TV doesn't have optical port just HDMI ports. Thus, after setting up my Sonos Playbar with my Tivo Roamio and Samsung TV I have the following issues... When I change the volume via my Tivo remote, I have to use my iPad/iPhone Sonos app if I don't want the TV volume to go up/down. When I use the Tivo remote like I normally would, the Sonos Playbar and Samsung TV volume go up/down. Thus, I am still getting Samsung TV sound. Not horrible but not ideal. Also when I turn the TV off, I have to press mute as well on the tivo remote in order for the playbar to go quiet since it is plugged
