I know this is a recurrent topic, but I actually believe it would be very helpful if Sonos address this issue in a concise webpage with continuous updates. Right now the whole forum is full of questions about TV's ability to pass-through a 5.1 HDMI signal. The (so voted) most helpful comment on amazon about the playbar is about the problem of not getting a real surround but an artificial constructions from a PCM 2.0 signal from the TV. And this is also the main issue mentioned in CNET for the review of the playbar. So, guys, could you make a systematic and compressive study/review of which TV's will work with the Sonos surround system? I'm currently considering to get a full sonos surround pack, but I cant not make a decision before knowing if my LG 65UB930T (LG65UB9500 in USA) is able to pass the signal form the devices connected to the HDMI ports. And I believe this situation is generalized for all potential consumers, many of them buying your product without being aware o
Simple question really.... I'm about to set up a Play:1 and Play:3 and have a few questions. My router is a dual band Trendnet TEW-818 transmitting 3 networks 2.4 (b/g/n legacy devices) , 2.4 (n only IP Cams) and 5(n/ac modern hi-speed devices). My PC and android device both connect on the 5Ghz network. Now I know that SONOS runs on 2.4 (b/g) but when I'm setting up the system do I have also have to put one of the devices also on the 2.4 network? And once setup will I be able to use the the PC and android on 5Ghz and still control the speakers? My router automatically passes traffic between all the networks, for example on my Android I can see all devices on my network both wired and wireless regardless of network. Thanks in advance.
Hi all currently I have 1 Playbar, 1 Sub, and 2 Play1. All grouped together in "Living Room". I would like to be able to create two groups: - Living Room TV (all of the above) - Living Room Musik (just Sub and Play 1 or Sub and Playbar) right now this is not possible as a single speaker cannot be in more than one group ......
There are many posts and request for a portable or outside speaker on ask.sonos and others for a battery powered Play 1. The Play 1 is plugged in from the bottom with a very flush and tidy fitting power lead. This makes me think and others might agree that a battery pack could be developed that works like a drill battery and plugs into the bottom of the Play 1 - maybe the power lead could also plug into the bottom of the battery pack to recharge in situ so it is seamless in design and can be used whilst recharging or if battery power is low. I would opt for a lithium-ion polymer battery as: Excerpt from wikipedia “The result is a "plastic" cell, which theoretically could be thin, flexible, and manufactured in different shapes, without risk of electrolyte leakage.”
Hi, When I listen to the radio (Tunein) on Sonos, I sometimes get what I would describe as a sort of stuttering, which is particularly noticeable on long-held musical notes. I have a Sonos Connect linked to a Cyrus stereo, where it is acute, but it is also noticeable on my Play1 (now that I am listening for it) Powering down the Sonos system and restarting seems to address the issue, so I'm inclined to think it is not broadband performance. If I switch to another music service, such as Google-play, I don't get the issue. Also, streaming from my local library across the LAN doesn't exhibit the problem either. I've tried copying the native streaming links from the BBC and adding my own radio station, but I get the same issue. I listen to a mix of BBC Radio 6 and 2. Any ideas or help gratefully received. Cheers Mark
Hello, just a question ... does anyone uses macronos on his android device ? It seems that this little app can easily do what sonos doesn't want to implement i.e. stream to sonos directly the music you play on your phone (spotify, youtube, ...). Another question does anybody tried to install macronos on a mac with a virtual box or other solution. Thank you and sorry for my English
I am trying to connect my sonos connect to my yamaha rx 675 receiver but not getting the speakers from the receiver to also have the music from the play 1 speaker. Not sure what I've done wrong. I have the audio out on the receiver to the audio in on the connect. Help. I do have output from connect to input in receiver as well as output from receiver to input in connect. Still can't get sonos to play on yamaha or vice versa. Help.
Everything was fine, prompted on my Mac to update the Sonos app, didn't realise it was going to update (or trash) everything. Allowed the update to happen, it seemed to go OK, until we then tried to connect to the system with our phones. All connections had gone, couldn't even see the Sonos network, even though it was playing music at the time. Had to reset everything and start again, even down to reconnecting music services and all favourites. Very inconvenient, not happy!
There's music playing somewhere in the house, and I've wandered into another room to do something. To get the speaker in that room playing I currently have to find a tablet and change the groups which required too many screens anyway. How about double tapping the play button on the speaker to automatically cycle through the active groups in the system?
Please can you provide an option to disable the play/pause button on my Play:1 and Play:5. I can't imagine it will take much development time. My cat tends to walk over the Play/Stop button and starts playing the music on my queue, and then for good measure sits on the volume button. I have come home from work to irate neighbours on several occasions - apparently they don't share his taste in music :)
Hi. My wife gives training, and this involves playing video files on Powerpoint Presentations. Her MacBook's internal speakers aren't loud enough, so she wants to connect the laptop to a Sonos Play:5 (using a wire) in order to use that as a speaker. We did a test at home yesterday, and then went fine. However, when she took the laptop and speaker out of the house, it didn't work - perhaps because she didn't have the Bridge or a WiFi connection? Could anyone please tell me if she is able to use a Sonos 5 as a speaker without the Bridge and WiFi, and, if so, how to do this? I'm not very technical so please keep it simple! Thanks a lot.
One radio station drops out periodically (out of country). Is there any way to increase the buffer from (I assume) 2 seconds to (say) 3-4 seconds? I appreciate the change would add lag when switching stations, but the existing buffer is inadequate for this one station. Internet speed is fine, most other stations are fine, all four speakers in the house experience it at the same time. I could do some stupid cludge like buffer from the router, but it seems silly and inefficient.
It would be great to see alarms play on pre-grouped rooms, but not using the "Include in grouped rooms" setting as I am likely to change grouping throughout the day, and so when the alarm goes off it doesn't work for me, that it plays on the my previous days groups. It is also not ideal to set several alarms playing the same source (in my case TuneIn radio), as it is massively out of sync. I think this would be a huge benefit as did your engineer when I spoke to them earlier. Thanks.
Bought a Sonos Play 1 today, awesome except that when playing Spotify through the Sonos app it only plays a little bit of the song then stops. If I play a song through my iPhone or put a radio station on it plays without a problem. Spotify songs only play a small portion then stops....?
Hi, I just got a Play 1 and after few days of research, I understood that the basic function of having ANY sound of my computer, played to the Play 1, is not an option (yet?). However, I also found that the "Stream What You Hear" (SWYH) software can partly help, and stream the sounds to the Play 1...but with a delay. So for the moment, movies/youtube/videos... are not suitable because of that delay. However, I would like to test the "streaming" feature of "SWYH" but with TuneBlade, as I think they handle this delay issue in a better way (from what I read, the delay can also be due to the AirPlay technology). So my question is the following: to link the Play 1 with Tuneblade, I need the ip/port of my Play 1 in order to connect them together. Here is attached below a screenshot of the parameters of TuneBlade. In "type" I can select "Speakers/HiFi receivers" and "Shairport". I know the IP of my Play 1, but I can't find which port number to use. I tried 80, 443, 1024 ... with no success.
When using my Sonos playbar+play 1+play 1 as a surround mode, it's wonderful, and no lag at all in the sound and playback. I would love to have (hard or easy) access to change settings of my Play:1 (3/5) to give full volume when watching music videos or concerts at my TV, either trough Chromecast or on TV/cable/sat - in TV mode in sonos app. I haven't found an easy way to do this, but disconnecting my two Play:1's as sperate players, bonded as a group.
My Sonos Play 5 is connected to my TV with the AUX-cable. It autostarts playing when im turning on my TV - which is great! The problem is that when the TV is turned on, Sonos suddenly will automatically stop playing the sound from the TV, so i have to take my iPhone and start "playing" again. How can this be fixed? It is VERY annoying!
Please be aware that the Sonos products, wonderfull sound as they have, only can be used as a stereo device when watching movies. In some rare instances a true and very compliant Dolby Digital 5.1 audio source will be played fine. Very often there will be frequent audio drop-outs. DTS movies will not work. DD+ will give audio drop-outs even though the bit rate is low enough for the optical interface. Xbox 360 slim DD5.1 seem to work for some reason. At least through a state of the art hex-core android TV.
Moving to another apartment and selling my old stereo equipment I now have spare 2 x play 1 and 1 x play 5 on hands that were before used for different rooms. Due to convenience factor I would like to move one of these to my main listening area but i still question which way to go. Either i add another Play 5 or purchase a Sub to go with Play 1s. Having small kids my listening volume is normally quite low. Reading this forum some suggest that the sound from play 5s would give me fuller sound but bass from the Sub would be much better, while others seem to think play 1s do sound better on their own when Sub comes into the picture. I understand the decision would always be subjective but would still like to hear some advice. Thanks Tomaz
Hello :) . I have a playbar and have just added 2 x PLAY:1 surrounds (left and right) via Bridge. By default the music playback for the PLAY:1 speakers was ambient, I've been able to change this to "full" through my iPad. No problems here. Now I'm looking to do the same for TV, although Im not seeing a similar setting. Is this possible? Thanks :)
