He also might forgo a future bonus. Courage. Extended warranties are for soundbars and plugin speakers currently in warranty. Something about a quality ombudsman. Trigger warning - ~3 mins of Spence talking lol
What is a reasonable time for a reply from the time a problem is reported?
Not only has the POS CEO ruined a great company, he’s lost money for the shareholders and undermined the used market. At this point I have to assume he has intentionally devalued the company because a bigger corporation is entertaining a buyout and by driving down the value he will get a big kick back from the new buyers. Absolutely shameful example of “leadership”. Sonos shares slide as Morgan Stanley issues a double downgrade, slashes PT
My brother is over and we were reminiscing of the years when Sonos was a company that was awesome and special. I started talking about the efforts they used to put into their YouTube channel. Like the Rick Ruben interview, the sound testing videos and the various launch videos. I was truly bummed to see the “new” Sonos took it upon themselves to delete all the old videos. Seems like pretty unnecessary to delete the history of a company that some many people used to love. Anyone else have some old favourites that are now gone? The amp launch video really stands out in my mind right now. Just another example of how little this company cares about it’s last and it’s loyal users
The newest version of the app requires additional permissions, is bloated with ads, does not work offline, and enables sonos to sell my personal data. This is unacceptable.I’ve tried to roll back to 16.1, but this doesn’t work with my UPNP media Library.I’ve also tried to use play.sonos.com and login.sonos.com, but on all my devices it says “Screen size unsupported”.On my linux desktop I have noson and another unofficial controller.I’ve tried PlexAmp for android, but the streaming to devices is very buggyI need a solution that just works.
Dunno maybe Wirecutter should fix their network, reboot, get a new mesh system.I’m having no issues with the app, must be them. 🤣 But in all (not) seriousness this is very brave of them 🤣Will be interesting to see what they recommend when they finish redoing the article. Quote, emphasis mine: We are completely re-envisioning this guide and will no longer recommend the Sonos multiroom audio platform as the best overall choice. Please see our note at the top of the guide for more details. After careful consideration, we no longer recommend the Sonos multiroom audio platform as the best overall choice. Sonos recently rolled out a major update to its control app that had a ton of problems, leaving its customers with a much less intuitive experience than they had before. While the company is slowly addressing some of the major issues with the new app, this is not the first time Sonos has hurt customer trust through poorly executed changes. That said, Sonos still makes great speakers that
I am with all others that vented their dislike of the latest update(s), yet I am more worried looking into the WHY of this…imho: The write off of so many functions and features can only be to soon re-introduce them as 'new services' for an extra cost!!!Why else would any sane company otherwise create such chaos in a good working service?
Hi, I wanted to get information on using Sonos in the Uk and if it fits into the business music licensing category or are you still required to make additional licensing payments ?
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-happened-sonos-app-technical-analysis-andy-pennell-wigwc/ What happened to the Sonos app? A technical analysis Andy PennellPrincipal Software Engineer at Xbox, Microsoft July 6, 2024On May 7th, 2024, Sonos, the successful home-audio company, released a new mobile app. This had been hyped in the press and was going to make product setup easier and greatly improve the user experience. However, when the app was actually released, it was, and somewhat remains, a disaster. As a certified Sonos fanboy/hacker/almost-employee I'm going to try and explain what happened, as best I can based on my reverse engineering skills, honed over the last decade and more of creating independent Sonos apps. How The "Old" App WorkedSonos speakers have been the Gold-standard UPnP device since their creation. I remember around 2005 the lobby to Microsoft Building 50, which was the home of the Windows Media Division at that time, was completely full of boxes of Sonos devices.
Anyone find any solutions to this?
Congratulations! You’ve finished the job. You have converted the 4 Sonos speakers that I derived so much satisfaction from into useless chunks of plastic.Amazing how you accomplished this despite having such an incompetent technical group. Or perhaps the marketers deserve the credits for taking down what was such a fine brand. Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll all be able to find jobs at Boeing.Where you like me to return the junk. Its just taking up space at my home.
Well argued but measured article on the new app and Sonos leadership failure. https://www.forbes.com/sites/danpontefract/2024/08/24/the-sound-of-failure-at-sonos/
After years of enjoying the Sonos system, I've decided to say it farewell. With the new app, the system has truly become worthless. Goodbye, Sonos.
Sonos App: The "Surprise Me" Feature. Every time you open the app, you gamble whether your music will play, your speakers will connect, or it will crash and leave you staring at a blank screen. The "Ghost Speaker" Phenomenon. Sometimes, a speaker decides to go AWOL. You'll swear it's there, but it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack; only the haystack is your living room. The "Volume Roulette." You'll set the volume to a perfect level, only to have it randomly jump up or down, making your ears bleed, or your neighbors complain. The "Group" Feature (That’s Not A Feature). You try to group your speakers together for a party, but it's more like herding cats. Some speakers refuse to join, others go rogue, and the whole thing ends in chaos. Contacting "Sonos Support.” It's like trying to find Bigfoot: elusive, mythical, and often rumored to exist but rarely seen. You'll hear stories about people who've managed to contact them, but for most of us, it's just a legend.
After reading Spence’s comments on reddit (why isn’t he on here?) I have to say I no longer understand what Sonos sees as its core audience or function. I get that local libraries are a bit passé for many on here, but are also strongly loved by those still using them, but, even if you get your music from Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz etc. surely a key part of that experience is the ability to queue music and edit that queue? The whole ability to queue up music at a party with friends by passing round the iPad for example was alway a big part of any music service, and I’m sure still is, along with the ability to save said queue into a playlist. Sonos clearly don’t have the queue thing in the front of their mind anymore and seem to think people want to be able to control Sonos outside the home, but I can’t hear my speakers outside the home? The key thing with speakers that you can’t easily change is that you generally need to be within earshot of the damn things for them to be of any use… So doe
I've been a proud loyal Sonos user and promoter for nearly 10 years. Sonos 2024 New App is a complete failure !!! Return the previous Sonos S2 Controller App ! Fire who ever is responsible for releasing the new app before it is ready!I had planned to significantly expand my Sonos system this year, that plan is canceled, and I will be replacing my Sonos system with a system from a responsible organization.
This put a big dent in Sonos usability…https://www.wired.com/story/sonoss-home-theater-system-rant/
I feel like we need to take to social media and really embarrass sonos into dealing with us customers better and making the app better. Once we start trending on Twitter etc they will have to do better. We’ve spent good money on the product and the service is terrible. If we start telling ppl not to buy sonos the company will have to act. Who’s with me ??
I’m so disappointed by the new app. It’s terrible to search. We cannot stand it!! Trying to figure out how to find music anymore?? It’s confusing all over the place. Is such a lousy platform. I used to be happy and excited to tell people that I had Sonos and now I’m embarrassed.
How can I talk with customer service without waiting an hour or more? Tired of the systems I’ve had for many years not working for the past two months.
I am truly horrified by the user interface change. WHY? Every SONOS user has mastered the old one. I have been a SONOS evangialist for 20 years to anyone who would listen to me but cannot recommend it any more. I just setup my daughter with some of my old SONOS gear and fortunately she could use the S1 software. I can’t downgrade to S1 as I have a BEAM gen2 in the mix. Please please please let us use the old IOS S2 software that we know and love and works well. Change for change sake is never a good idea. This new software is BAD.
I learned today that if I want the Sonos app to access the local Apple music library stored on my MacBook Pro, I will need to disable SMBv1 on my MBP. I believe, SMB is a fundamental part of the Mac O/S and its ability to communicate with servers. And perhaps it is used by other apps in ways I am unaware of. My question is, what, if any, is the adverse effect of disabling SMBv1? BTW, I have read in other threads on here that Sonos may have it’s knickers in a knot over something (weak security via SMBv1) that has never happened.Rant: the new Sonos app bites the big you know what … the rollout is bush league. They must have a bunch first graders running their application team.
Has anyone been able to complete an Advanced Shipment replacement order recently? After spending a few weeks back and forth with technical support I was finally issued an RO number but unfortunetly every time I put in my payment info I get an error “Authentication Failed - Please make sure entered credit card info is correct”. I have tried different browsers, a mobile device and four different credit cards all of which produce the same result. I called customer service yesterday and they just suggested a standard replacement but since I dont have the original packaging (and the arc is not your usual box size) I dont want to risk shipping it without the proper packaging.
Hi allhope you can help. Since the new Sonos app update ( May’24) I seem to have lost the ability to play all “top tracks” from an artist search. (Tidal) The Sonos App does not now create a que of the songs it will only play one and you have to manually select your next choice rather than it play all the top tracks one after the other ?
@Mike R HI see the recap - understand you’ll be under time pressure. Appreciate you have put up a post. Given that there wasn’t really much in the way of substantive answers. Will you be putting together a list of all the actual questions? i.e. the majority, unanswered. Whereby Tucker, as product manager can work his way through them and give actual definitive answers.I think it reasonable. Simply saying feedback has been passed to the teams isn’t going to cut it at this point.
