Stereo Play 5s vs Play 1 pair with sub
Moving to another apartment and selling my old stereo equipment I now have spare 2 x play 1 and 1 x play 5 on hands that were before used for different rooms. Due to convenience factor I would like to move one of these to my main listening area but i still question which way to go. Either i add another Play 5 or purchase a Sub to go with Play 1s. Having small kids my listening volume is normally quite low. Reading this forum some suggest that the sound from play 5s would give me fuller sound but bass from the Sub would be much better, while others seem to think play 1s do sound better on their own when Sub comes into the picture. I understand the decision would always be subjective but would still like to hear some advice. Thanks Tomaz
Sonos really that bad?
Hi all!Yesterday I had a friend at my home. He is a true audiophile. He owns a Sonus Faber speakers with Mcintosh amp and a whole lot more really expensive equipment (DAC, cords...). But, he used to own a system 5 or 10 times cheaper so I think he knows what he is hearing/saying. I myself listened to his newest system. I went speechless. I told him numerous time: Sonos is not for critical music listening, but my 5.1 setup for movies: it can hold its own. So, yesterday he had his ears on my Playbar, rear 3’s and a SUB. First, Eric Clapton’s Layla, unplugged through Spotify. After 10 seconds, he went: “Whoa, someone killed the musicians”. I LOLed but even before I had a chance to “tweak” the sound he kindly asked me to turn it off :-) Ok, how about some movies. The plane hijacking scene of The Dark Knight Rises was our choice. He let me go a bit longer than Layla but he said: Do you know how much sound you are missing here? So, I pushed mute, and replied: I don’t agree, I thing that movi
Outdoor Weatherproof Speakers
I want to make two irrefutable statements of fact: 1) Sonos is the best wireless speaker system in the world with a very intuitive app that makes wireless audio amazingly simple. 2) Sonos management cares little about customer feedback and is leaving millions on the table. While that might sound kind of harsh, consider that the Sonos Community has viewed a thread over 46,000 times and I've seen online blogs begging for an outdoor speaker FOR YEARS! How many millions of dollars could Sonos have made by simply delivering on this request? I've personally looked for weatherproof enclosures for both the Connect Amp and Play speakers and nobody has an elegant solution. It's completely aggravating when I come to the Sonos website after over a year of owning my system and still there is no answer to the community by management letting us know: A) when a weatherproof speaker is coming, or B) why it will never come. And I'm late to the party, which means others were ignored for over five y
Panasonic TV internal speaker mute
Hi all, So the new Playbar arrived and yes it does live up to the reputation, however I'm having a real problem disabling the TV's internal speakers it's a Panasonic TX-L55WT50 and I simply can't find any set up option to turn them off. I've even tried plugging a Jack into the headphone socket but nope that didn't work either. I can't simply turn the volume down or mute the telly as obviously the playbar depends on the TV remote control, so as soon as you touch the volume the tv speakers come back. The current work around is to have the tv volume turned down and to control the Playbar volume via iPad but this is far from perfect and flys in the face of the "simple" idea and seamless pairing. It's currently taking the edge off of what should have been a perfect solution, any ideas?
Play 1 Battery Pack
There are many posts and request for a portable or outside speaker on ask.sonos and others for a battery powered Play 1. The Play 1 is plugged in from the bottom with a very flush and tidy fitting power lead. This makes me think and others might agree that a battery pack could be developed that works like a drill battery and plugs into the bottom of the Play 1 - maybe the power lead could also plug into the bottom of the battery pack to recharge in situ so it is seamless in design and can be used whilst recharging or if battery power is low. I would opt for a lithium-ion polymer battery as: Excerpt from wikipedia “The result is a "plastic" cell, which theoretically could be thin, flexible, and manufactured in different shapes, without risk of electrolyte leakage.”
Sonos connect keeps cutting out
My connect keeps cutting out/stuttering when playing music. It is currently plugged in via ethernet cable as it was also cutting out before when running on wireless. My internet speed is 100mbps so I know it's not an internet speed issue. My diagnostics number is 3944892
Sonos Play 5_2nd Gen Defective WiFi Cards?
I've read several posts about the Play 5_2nd Gen suddenly having problems due to a defective WiFi card. Although it appears that Sonos has been replacing the defective units (when notified) it still gives me pause. Do I need to be concerned about my two (2) out of warranty Play 5 2nd Gen's developing the same issue? If it is widespread I would hope that Sonos would issue a re-call to replace the units similar to what Microsoft did with the 1st Gen Xbox One units manufactured in a certain lot. Can anyone at Sonos elaborate?
The last year of Sonos
It would appear that this will be the last year of Sonos. Between the cancer of their lousy 5.0 app their anti-customer policy of outright refusing to fix it, their market lead will almost certainly be gone by X-mas. Look at the list of companies currently selling directly competitive products and note that nearly every one of them has vastly greater name recognition and audio experience than Sonos:

Bose Soundtouch
Wren V5
Definitive W Series
Polk Omni
Samsung Shape
Gramofon
Monster Soundstage
And no
Re-setting up Play:5/2 fails - turns orange instead of white
Hi Sonos. I've had a pair of Play:5 gen. 2 for a month or so and it has been working flawlessly as stereo speakers in my living room. However, tonight all of a sudden the right side speaker didn't play - it did earlier this morning. Thus, I "dis-paired" the speakers and tried to set up the right side player again. Which failed. So I reset it to factory default. Then it seemed like it was working properly: The light flashed green. So I went on to set up the Play:5 Gen 2 as a new speaker: I went to settings, tapped add player, logged in, made sure the player was powered (still green light flashing), selected Play5 Gen 2 from the drop down menu, pressed the connect button, heard the sound, and then.. instead of turning white the player's light turned orange (at first flashing with some red flashing occasionally, and eventually SOLID ORANGE). Needless to say the set-up failed. So I looked it up on your website. Solid orange apparently means over heated? However my living room is jus
Access Denied to Music on Synology Drive
Hi I had this problem with my Music Library on my Synology NAS server. Eventually the Sonos Tech Team came up with an answer that worked for me. The problem was I only had one user account for the NAS server and all my Sonos Speakers and iMac and PC etc used this account. It appears the NAS drive thought this was a security risk and stopped my two One SLs for accessing the drive. The other speakers worked OK. The solution was to create another user account specifically for Sonos. As soon as this was created and the library rebuilt with the new account all the speakers worked correctly and I can play music from the library from any speaker. Hope this helps with some of these access problems.
Do Not Buy Another Sonos
I just got off the phone with tech support - my Sonos cube cant “connect”with the app on my phone.I haven't used the device in a month. After going through the usual antiquated prompts I was told that unless I plug in an ethernet cable from the modem/router to the Sonos cube It cannot be fixed - WHO HAS AN ETHERNET CABLE LYING AROUND in 2020? All I can say is that its Valentines Day and I have no music. Pathetic. I’m shorting SONO stock on Monday.
No Bluetooth workaround for Sonos One?
So yes, the lack of Bluetooth is a glaring issue that I think we all would like to see resolved at some point. Really limits things in a big way, but I kind of wonder if it's possible to do a work around some how. So, we can take our tablets, with the Sonos app, and run the Sonos One speakers using a number of associated apps, like Spotify, iHeart, Amazon, etc. Say you just want to watch a movie or something on your tablet, and output the sound to the speakers? If you can output the music stream via Wifi why can't Sonos or some enterprising young developer create a compatible app that will take any sound feed from your Sonos connected device and stream via Wifi the same way? Seems almost too logical and simple to me. Thoughts?
Switch off WiFi and Bluetooth PERMANENTLY from Sonos One
Hi All I have a very quick and simple question: Can I SWITCH OFF the Wifi and Bluetooth PERMANENTLY from my Sonos One? I am keen on using Sonos One connected to my Router via a Ethernet cable and also because I want to reduce the EMF Radiation in my Flat. Thanks in advance N
Why the concept behind Sonos is basically flawed
I thought I would like to share my thoughts on why I would never recommend Sonos to my friends. After having given it some thought, in my opinion, the whole concept behind Sonos is basically flawed. First off, a little about my current Sonos situation. Today I have, and enjoy, a fully working Sonos system with multiple devices spread across several rooms. The system is stable, because at some point I decided to cable everything. The majority of my past Sonos problems could all be related to wireless instability. Here is why the concept behind Sonos, in my opinion, is basically flawed. Sonos is sold as a speaker system with flexibility and ease of use as part of its core values. The idea is simple. The speakers look good, and can easily be moved around your home in various wireless configurations. I dont doubt that for many users, this is in fact reality (eventhough the speakers are probably rarely moved around). However, if you inspect the troubleshooting section o
Can you connect more than one Sonos Roam via Bluetooth
Aka daisy chain. Many cheap bluetooth speakers can do this so it would be disappointing if the Roam can't. I do know that two Roams will not do stereo in bluetooth but I can't seem to find anywhere if it even supports two Roams or more in mono. Thanks
SONOS Vs Bluesound.... we have a winner!
In the knowledge that I was moving with my family to a new larger property, I have been preparing/researching/saving for several items of audio and AV equipment. One absolute must was a multi-room wireless system. We still have traditional stereo in our office/guest room, and the main system in our 'Snug' has a great stereo and 5.1 system. But, the heart of the house, the kitchen diner, needs music to be readily available, and this means intuitive above sound quality so that my wife actually plays music. Cutting to the chase, I borrowed, one at a time, to demo in situ, a Bluesound Pulse Mini, a Play:3, a Bluesound Pulse and finally (playing as I type) a Play:5. I'd done a lot of reading, and spoken to staff at the shops, and was in no doubt that I would prefer the 'audiophile' sound of the Bluesound, and that the ability to play my high-res files (I have a Pono and a Pioneer N-50 network player) would be the clincher. The only possible thing that might gain some points for the SONO
