Harsh... I'm sure if you call them up they will sort you out.

Actually, I'm not sure being called a moron or having your product called brain-dead would hasten anyone's effort to sort them out. Been in software and support for 30 years, and support calls like that get put in what we call the "sick fish tank". 😉

Seriously — you really do need to lighten up.

Spewing hate?? If you weren’t such a long time poster I would think you weren’t for real.

This is an app. Some people like it, some people hate it. That isn’t the same thing as spewing hate. Your language is not proportionate or appropriate.

Andrew
What's really REALLY amazing (and this is coming from an application developer/UX specialist) is when you consider all the checkpoints leading up to a release... user flows created and approved (ball dropped) - then wireframes need to be created and approved (ball dropped) .. prototyping and testing (drop 3), development and usability testing (ball dropped yet again) .. Theres such a long chain of approvals and the fact that nobody questioned what are some serious system flaws and this product was still released is amazing.. Its not like one person "pulled the switch" and this was released.. it was lots of rounds of lots of important people in fancy suits getting free lunch "OK-ing" things that were obviously flawed.. my guess is user testing was completely omitted.. it took me 5 minutes to find gapping holes. Its just numbing to understand how this could make it through so many check points. And aside from the many many UX mistakes, the app simply doesnt work at times. Ive had to redo simple steps 3 or 3 times to make them "stick". As simple as just changing rooms, or adjusting volume. My guess is this was intended as a cosmetic upgrade only and they used an agency with strong "interface design" and no real "user experience design" chops
Seriously — you really do need to lighten up.

What do you call language that describes the new controller as a relationship that turned abusive? Is that language "not proportionate or appropriate"? Or is that spewing nonsense and hyperbole? Until I see you telling people with posts like that to lighten up, it seems quite hypocritical to be jumping on Chris or others for using a far more accurate description of many of the anti-8.0 posts.

Notice, this is the third time I've asked you to comment on posts like the one I cite and up to now you have taken the coward's way out. Let's see if you ignore it this time too.

How many who have gone back to 7.4 APK have lost a lot of functionality when all hardware is udated to the latest firmware?.

I reverted to V7.4 on my Android phone. I lost no functionality that I am aware of. My PC is still running V8 (which doesnt seem to be any different to V7.4 to me) and so I assume that if I did need to access some particular function that was no longer available on my phone then I could just do so from my PC.

Yes it is the third time you’ve asked me to comment on that post, but I’ve no idea which post you are referring to. And I haven’t gone looking for it just to please you. I’m fairly sure the comment wasn’t mine so the accusation of hypocrisy is unjust.

Chris did not say spewing nonsense or hyperbole. It was Chris’s specific use of the term ‘spewing hate’ I took a dislike to. There are many websites dedicated to hate and the dissemination of it, would you like me to point you towards a few as examples? The point I made is that if someone hates the app and dares say so, they are not ‘spewing hate’. It is a very ugly, aggressive term with very nasty connotations. Spewing nonsense or hyperbole does not even come close. You cannot possibly defends it’s use — irrespective of who else said what. I haven’t seen the other post you referred to, but two wrongs do not make a right.

Andrew
You have commented on practically every 8.0 thread I have posted in except one. I highly doubt you missed that one. But hey, I'll bite. Here is the post andrew. I dare you to comment on it:

In retrospect, spewing hate is not the term that should be used. It certainly has a usage that has far more negative connotations than an app critique. Likewise, domestic abuse is a serious issue that damages the lives of millions, often times taking those lives. So andrew, it will be interesting if your level of disgust for this poster equals that of your reaction to Chris. My bet, you make excuses or back away. You're up!

Just tried 7.4, I've lost room settings for surround etc so looks like I'm stuck using 8.0.

All because I bought another Play1, wish I hadn't bothered now...
My tablet is so bright with the white back ground. So much for relaxing with the lights dimmed. Good thing I can use the Spotify app.
>in retrospect, spewing hate is not the term that should be used.

That was the only point I was trying to make.

As predicted, you back away without commenting. Folks, that is selective outrage at its finest. :8

the new app just plain sucks on Apple and Android products, I still get confuse on room change and groups...don't teach us monkeys to adapt to one thing and then go change it on us and expect better results. If it ain't broke then don't try to.....the computer version is still good and sometimes I'll just use that instead of my phone...the "Browse" wording seems confusing, just label it "Music". Definitely missing the left side tool bar with everything available at your finger tips...at least keep the majority of the population happy and have the older version available so the people can choose please!
If people cannot tell the difference between logical organisation and flow on the one hand and visuals on the other, there is nothing I can do about that. Sonos will not and should not go back to 7.4. They will make v8 better. I am signing off on this topic now because life is too short....
Couldn't agree more - new app sucks, very counter-intuitive and just basically very poorly designed. Have been trying to use it for months now - still sucks. Never thought that about any of the prior versions or had any issues learning the prior versions. Like many comments here, really frustrated and confused why Sonos would release and push down such a piece of garbage - like going from a mac to a dos system. Please scrap this version and release a more intuitive user-friendly version ASAP.

I have also been puzzled with the new direction Sonos has decided to walk. Must have to do with becoming mature as a company. More than one company lost the charm growing up.

I believe sonos will never be good again, at least not for a great customer experience. Customers are a means, not an end goal. All the proof is the decisions made (sonos account, data collection, white interface, criple navigation, voice control with Alexa), the responses from clients here and the lack of “solving” answers from sonos. It’s all left in the dark. And if I read back this was already started when the software was updated in the past.

My advice: stop complaining. If too frustrated take your loss and sell your sonos players. If you can’t live without multi room audio, buy a Bluesound setup. Still has the “charm” factor and decent customer experience. But don’t ever again invest too much in one “connected system” setup which relies on software you have no control on. It will derail rather sooner than later.

I took my loss but wish to use a multi room system and switched from sonos to a moderate Bluesound setup and my (and my family’s) frustration when listening to music is gone for now. Bluesound is not perfect but the user experience is good to excellent. Hope it will last some time.

Any questions or remarks welcome but please stop hating each other and sonos.
Also really struggling with new version of the app. Really liked the old version. What’s worse, new version doesn’t actually let me play favorite stations in iHeartRadio, just shows me what they are.

The charm factor Aye. Lol. Now that you are with the wonderful Bluesound is it possible that you can migrate your participation to their forums? ?
Sucks is being way too nice. What bunch of idiots did the market research?

No need to spend a fortune on Bluesound, just use SonoPad or Sonophone if you are on Apple.
Calm restored for a couple of £s

Mr Deezz I just entertained myself by visiting the Bluesound forum and funny enough below is the first post I landed on:

“Multi-platform search, Apple Music and others
I have recently moved from Sonos to Bluesound but am fast regretting this decision as at least 2 key features are missing.

1. Cross platform search - it's very clunky to have to search each source. I have Qobuz, Tidal, My own library and Apple Music. Sonos is so much more user friendly

2. Apple Music - once again Sonos has support for Apple Music whilst BS doesnt. So it's not a technical issue or a problem at Apple's end one would assume. I can see requests going back years for this and no good reason why it hasn't been added. Just how many Apple Music users are there in the world!

3. OSX version of BS doesnt list Qobuz playlists in search results. App does.

4. Bluesound support doesn't play at all well with Safari.”

ENJOY YOUR NEW SYSTEM. ???

Thanks for the sonopad suggestion. Could work for a lot.

And thanks Burt. I have migrated indeed but this kind of message does not yet serve any purpose in the Bluesound community. Maybe in a couple of years. I have raised my concerns there however on how long it will take for them to follow sonos in this run for economic growth.

And I have not entirely migrated. In my business we still use sonos in multiple areas. Not happily but not as flexible there to just change that to a different system.

But thanks for the smile. 🙂 back.

Look I am not a Sonos fanboy by any stretch. I was hopping mad about the changes made to the queue Management and also could have done without the latest update to be honest. But it is still a great system and compares very favorably with any other you can think of. The others are not without glaring deficiencies as well. So threats of selling etc are quite humorous to me because I am sure you would realize that the grass is often not greener and in the face of challenges sometimes it’s better to stick with what you have. This is one such case for me.

I will continue to share more views strongly and openly with Sonos. I cannot at this time make a jumping ship case.

The new layout doesn't really make anything easier, but for me I keep losing speakers from the app. This didn't happen till this new version appeared. It is hugely frustrating. End up with a speaker playing and I can stop it. Leave it for a while and it reappears.

Cross posted from another thread - I made the mistske of telling Google Store to update the Sonos app. Once the app updated it self and all my speakers were upgraded, I found the new UI to be terrible and not have dark backgrounds, among many other issues. I uninstalled the 8.0 app and found an apk mirror for Sonos 7.4, I reverted back to 7.4 for android to get the original, useful UI back that also has the wonderful dark backgrounds and a host of other things. No issues so far... :)

I would love a walk through on how to get my whole system back to a previous version. I have several controllers including Win/ MAC laptops and Android phones. I so desperately want to get back away from this 8.1 thing that took out my whole system. So frustrated that my system was held hostage until I updated all my controllers only to find there are no significant updates, just piles of deficiencies.

How do I get all my controllers back to a 7.x version? Can it be done?

Chris I hear ya brotha, I just didn't want sonos to become like the other companies and ignore the customers....that's what was making them stand out but now I'm guessing money had got a hold of them. "If you build it, they will come" don't forget your past sonos creators
