I’ve just settled on this never happening, which is super disappointing. But fortunately I have all my speakers added to rooms in my Apple HomeKit, so I can tell Siri on my phone to play so and so in the such and such room.

definitely feels like a “google” issue….when I set google as my voice assistant on my arc, it won't play Apple Music. When I change it to Alexa, it works flawlessly….Google will allow me to play Apple Music on a google home device….

Definitely sounds like a sonos incompatibility issue. Tried all combination with Google assistant/sonos with Apple Music, Pandora, and Apple Music. It only fails when set up with Apple music in google assistant as default → cannot be played on sonos. I can however play from the Apple Music app (on iphone) directly to sonos One, so it looks like a connectivity from google home to sonos

Perhaps see this thread…

Folks, I dumped Google Assistant and started using Alexa to play Apple Music through my Sonos Beam and it works great! If you are not married to your smart assistant, I suggest this way forward. Plus Alexa also has other cool features like intercom between rooms, etc.

Google has the same intercom features

Why can’t Sonos give us an estimate when this bug will be fixed?

I am still hopeful this will happen, I mean why is it not even possible? I just do not understand why this shouldn’t work as everything is supported??

It’s not a bug, it’s a request for a new feature.

I was shocked that this didn’t work when I setup a new Nest Hub yesterday.  Sonos team, if you’re watching this thread, can you help us to understand what the issue is?

  • Should we putting pressure on Apple for the proper APIs to support? Google? You?
  • Can you confirm that it’s on your roadmap to enable the proper behavior? Do you have any sort of target that you can share?

Had Alexa and switched to a Google Assistant household, Nest products, etc. Now Sonos is the lagging technology.

Please. Just give us something.

Just breathing some life into this thread.  This is stupid.  I have pandora, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Sonos set as default music speaker in Google Home Hub Max.

Selects “Spotify” in google home app - “hey Google play music” - “playing music” - music plays

Selects “Pandora” in Google home app - “hey Google play music” - “playing music” - music plays

Selects “Apple Music” in Google home app - “hey Google play music” - “I’m sorry but sonos doesn’t support”

Like - this is stupid.  Please fix this.

I’d not be surprised if it’s actually a Google issue.

Looks like most of us are trying to get a Google Home device (Nest Hub, etc.) to direct a Sonos speaker to play Apple Music. Has anyone had success getting a Sonos voice-enabled device (One, Beam, Arc) with Google Assistant enabled on that device to play Apple Music on that device itself?

Same issue here. Apple music works fine on Google Home mini but when you ask it to play it on Sonoa it replies saying Apple music is not supported on Sonos. Waiting for the update from Sonos to sort this out. If Google speaker can support it then Sonos can

Still waiting. Wish they could at least give us a timeline or something

Just got a beam yesterday and pretty bummed Google Assistant seemingly can’t play Apple Music as well, especially since this seems to be a Sonos problem vs a Google problem.

Very dissatisfied that this hasn’t been fixed in almost a year.

I switch over form alexa on my arc because it wasn't working properly and now Sonos can’t even offer a simple update? SMH

Hi Sonos, I recently purchased a sonos roam. I am really disappointed i can not tell the roam to play a specific song from apple music like i can on any of my other Google Assistant Devices. This missing feature makes me consider returning this item even though I really appreciate the airplay support, the main reason I purchased. Please resolve this in an update as many others have asked before me

Hi,

Just to add an additional update form myside as I still try to understand the status of this.

  1. How much of this has to do with the lawsuit that Sonos just won that relates to patent infringements.  Hopefully they can play nice again.  Read more about it here:  Sonos’ Patent Win Will Change Google’s Smart Speakers—for Now | WIRED  (Public domain CM’s so don’t think any rule broken posting the outcome - it was in Sonos favour).
  2. On my google speaker, i can use the assistant and apple music just fine (Now the bugs have been cleared out)
  3. The Google assistant appears to be working on other Sonos speakers according to another wired.com article (No i have no affiliation with then).  Though it only references this working with the Roam and Apple music via voice control. Edit: The article actual states it works with all assistants.  So is there a firmware update coming?

So perhaps it is either an apple music integration with google, through Sonos or related to the lawsuit. Or hopefully something still in the pipeline if it is working on the Sonos Roam.  Is it in the pipeline?

Please and update!

Best,
James

I believe they recently announced starting their own Sonos music streaming service. I’m not expecting they’re going to allow us to use Apple through their devices anytime soon unfortunately.

Agreed, this is a must...Sonos when will you support this please????

I’ve spent a lot of time setting up google assistant with different devices in my home. I’m also frustrated by two issues with integration of GA in Sonos:

  1. Not being able to use Apple Music as default music service when asking it to play specific songs.
  2. GA volume is excruciatingly loud. Seems like a separate GA audio volume from main volume would be appropriate.
