IFTTT - If This Then That integration with Sonos

If-This-Then-That (IFTTT) integration could be cool. You could expose playlists to IFTTT as either triggers and/or actions. Use cases could be when a certain playlist is started trigger lights (via WeMo or Hue). So for lighting, a "Dinner" playlist could set a particular light pattern via Hue, or turn off some lights and dim others. You could also start a playlist when motion is detected via a WeMo motion detector, or when a switch is turned on, start a playlist. You could use a special playlist to provide a house-wide audio notifier of new emails, Facebook/Twitter/app.net mentions, or Google Calendar events.

Is there already an official statement from SONOS if it is coming? Ans if yes, when?
I'm also extremely interested in this. I already have my Hue Lights, Withings products etc connected to IFTTT. Sonos is the final step remaining.
Interestingly this is already available on the Amazon Echo.
Would love to have IFTTT for Sonos - so many things including with Hue lights and also alerts from Nest Thermo/Nest Protect products. Would like to see Sonos being able to kick in my Hue lights when played. On Nest it would be good to be able to play audible alerts through Sonos - eg Warnings from Nest Protect , temperature alerts from Thermo etc.

Has there been any official stance on this yet? Amazed it's not supported already.
I would love IFTTT to be able to have the SONOS be like a door bell. Have it play a sound when phone rings, or door opens, etc... Or even connecting it to my Nest Protect when the fire alarm goes off...

Sonos alarm + Hive x ITTT = warm home for me when I get up in the morning and no wasted energy when I'm not at home (irregular schedule means auto away does not work well).

That would be clumsy, slow and would not work as well as you imagine with IFTTT James. Having to send the motion signal over the net to trigger a recipe and for the recipe to send back a trigger for Sonos, would take ages and fail frequently. However, with a NUC, some open source software and a bit of know how, it is very possible to set up the system you want. I've done it 🙂
This thread is more than two years old, not a single comment from Sonos. This is a total lack of respect for their customers. Quite disappointed with the so-called innovations brought to us since v.4.. IFTTT would indeed be a requirement for a home audio system worthy of the name as we are now slowly entering 2016...

IFTTT is good for integrating Web based services but would not be the best choice for an application like a doorbell. If your internet connection was down for some reason your doorbell would not work even though both the doorbell and your Sonos system are right there on your local area network. A better approach would be to use a home automation device such as Homeseer to set up the link between Sonos and your doorbell to keep everything local and reliable.
I purchased some Nest thermostats last year and have had some major fails with them due to Internet connectivity. This year I'll be moving back to network thermostats that do not depend on external services and will never again use any product that depends on external connections to accomplish their core functions. IFTTT would be great to integrate things that are web based by nature such as reading a weather forecast but it's not the best choice for integrating Sonos to other products inside your home.
So, let's list all the multi-room audio makers that DO respect their customers and support IFTTT, shall we?

Ummm... you do realise that this fact is irrelevant with regards to if Sonos should support it or not? I don't know the first thing about IFTTT, I don't care if Sonos supports it or not and, actually, for me personally I would rather that they put their development efforts somewhere else. BUT, could we, as a community of users, please stop attacking suggestions for Sonos improvements with passive aggressive answers such as this one? Why not let people be enthusiastic about their suggestions for improvements, and even "I'm surprised that I can't do this with Sonos" comments, without trying to scare them away from the community at every opportunity?

Yes I would like to see Sonos integration with some external services / home automation services ....
I'd love this, imagine being able to wake up with a report of your days calendar, being able to have emails read out from certain users, having notifications of when people are leaving work, reminders for the day, Audio notifications when someone comes to the front door, intercoms.... possibilities are endless.
Please add IFTTT support!
Sonos, you guys should really find a way to open up an API to allow people like all of those pining here to help build the Sonos into an even more amazing platform. Imagine if you gave hooks so we could use the Sonos platform with Amazon Echo and/or with Siri, etc.
Let alone opening up to work with IFTT. If you created a channel, how amazing would that be!

just got a Nest thermostat as my first device that prompted me to investigate IFTTT. There is huge potential here with Sonos also.

While Sonos were among the first and for sure are the biggest and have excellent products, Im getting afraid they will be missing out on the new customers entering the segment. No IFTTT integration (almost ALL new successful products entering the market in any kind of streaming / connected products opens up for IFTTT, )no Apple HomeKit integration, no voice control etc etc.
I really hope they will not become the Nokia of streaming music. (They had the best phones, they were the biggest, but missed the train and where are they now ?)

With somebody so supposedly in touch with technology, you'd think they'd have read the latest blog. And if you think 100 replies is significant, well that proves you don't read this forum much either. Hell, the old hires thread could get 100 replies in a couple days when it heated up.

Jgatie, you should realize that this forum is mainly visited by existing Sonos users. It is not visited by the thousands of people who simply dont buy Sonos because of lacking functionality.
Even if you dont consider any new functionality being important for yourself, I do think that its of your interest that the product survives ?
Personally i had the system for seven year and its quite a small system of only five units, and what prevents me from expanding further is that my fear (really hoping im wrong) is that being the leader made them complancent, not understanding where the market is going. Do you remember Ericsson mobile phones ? Nokia mobile phones ? Seen them around lately ?

Wouldn't the likely future intergration with Amazon Alexa/Echo bring about voice automation? ie Alexa switch sonos off, and they could all power down...maybe
