IFTTT - If This Then That integration with Sonos

Userlevel 3
If-This-Then-That (IFTTT) integration could be cool. You could expose playlists to IFTTT as either triggers and/or actions. Use cases could be when a certain playlist is started trigger lights (via WeMo or Hue). So for lighting, a "Dinner" playlist could set a particular light pattern via Hue, or turn off some lights and dim others. You could also start a playlist when motion is detected via a WeMo motion detector, or when a switch is turned on, start a playlist. You could use a special playlist to provide a house-wide audio notifier of new emails, Facebook/Twitter/app.net mentions, or Google Calendar events.

Hi everyone, this has been a long standing request, and after working with their teams, today we just announced that IFTTT and Sonos have been integrated. Take a look at our announcement post.

I've looked into ways of making an easier DIY solution than anything else available today (ranging from using a mac and Launcher Pro, ruby scripts with dropbox etc)

See https://en.community.sonos.com/advanced-setups-229000/easiest-way-to-get-robust-ifttt-support-6790436

Unfortunately IFTTT charges a huge chunk of money to register your own service at IFTTT, so for the time being you need to craft your own action URLs using the webhook channel in IFTTT. But for simple tasks like play/pause/next/group etc it's fairly easy even for non-developers.
Wow!! I can't believe this is not a priority??? IFTTT integration is an absolute must, cmon Sonos you need to do this.

Why would this be a "must" for a wireless multiroom music system? Sonos has partnered with the major custom electronics / home automation manufacturers, several of whom can do IFTTT. Sonos provides them with a fully documented API. Do your homework, find one that works for you, it definitely isn't something that Sonos should be adding.

I would also like to show support for IFTTT integration
Is there any news on this? People are now moving to smart gadgets. I just bought sonos 5.1 and was really disappointed that it is not integrated with ifttt, apple homekit or google home.

I would also like to show support for IFTTT integration. However if there's Google Home integration, I guess that can also work.
Referring to the API that allows virtually all the major home automation providers to integrate with Sonos. No need for the clunky and insecure IFTTT.
Nothing, eh? Guess you weren't paying attention on Aug 30th.

Are you referring to iftt or voice command?

I just want to add another desperate request for ifttt compatibility. That would be way more useful than voice command in my opinion.

Haveing got used to Voice vial Alexa I can not agree. Seems such an effort now to get Phone out just to change a track 🙂

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. We'll make sure to pass on your interest but for now there's no announcement to add on IFTTT support. We know there's a lot of interest around finding new ways to control your home and right now we're focused on voice control, though there are always other enhancements yet to be announced. We'll let you know if there's any news in the future.

Thanks for the update. To be clear, no one wants Sonos to control their house. We want Sonos to take instructions from other devices. Check the posts in this thread for a clearer picture.

I utilize Smartthings hub to handle Sonos voice announcements and automated handling and If then integration with Sonos

Well, while everyone here has been begging Sonos to add this feature another speaker came out with the feature built in: http://www.musaic.com/en-wo/ifttt/

You are missing the boat guys!
@rickfarris there is no official Sonos channel and they've never given any indication that they would/have even look at adding this.
I just bought my first piece of Sonos gear (Playbar) and I immediately began thinking of ways to use IFTTT to integrate Sonos into my home automation. So I'm here to pick up some cool IFTTT recipes from you guys. But where's the IFTTT channel?
+1 This is an absolute must.
IFTTT turns out to be the center hub for a connected home, the fact that I can control everything, from my door to my light and heat, but not the music I'm playing is super frustrating.
+1 Sonos really needs to add this integration. I have had the entry level play 1 for a while and love it, was thinking about expanding system but have since discovered IFTTT and its blown my mind, amazing. I'm not particularly invested in Sonos and as it doesn't look like they are going to add this are there any others on the market that do have IFTTT integration?
+1 for integration with IFTTT, I really want my house to start playing music automatically when I get home from work! I have seen a couple of workaround solutions but I don't really have the time to fiddle around getting it to work.

I've only just bought into the Sonos system but while researching different options the lack of IFTTT support was very nearly a dealbreaker for me. In the end I went ahead in the hope that support will be added at some point in the future.

in spite of being an early example of the benefits of adding wireless connectivity to a previously offline device, Mr MacFarlane is cautious about the hype around the “smart home” and “internet of things”.

“I don’t think people are looking for us to control your TV or your lights. I do believe in the ‘smart home’ but I think it has to solve problems for people,” he said.

“There is so much for us to do with that narrow focus of filling your home with music. I think the music services have just gotten started.”

This article is hidden behind a paywall...

Regarding MacFalanes statement: "I don’t think people are looking for us to control your TV or your lights" he's right. People want Sonos to INTEGRATE with their TV and their lights, not control them.
